The United Nations called on Tuesday for a new global reserve currency to end dollar supremacy which has allowed the United States the "privilege" of building a huge trade deficit. Ref. Source 7

The main consideration is what will we use? Not only this but who is going to manage the printing, distribution and authentication of the currency. Let me guess, maybe they are planning to make it totally electronic so there is no actual money passing hands. We are in for a rough ride, but I don't see this happening anytime soon.
