It is good that you have an assistant, but if it were up to me, I would promote that assistant to a Teacher and give her/him half your class. Yes, talk it over with your Primary President. note: if you feel you aren't getting anywhere with your Primary President go to your Councilor in the Bishopric who oversees the Primary first, then as a last resort go to the Stake Primary President.
As a matter of fact all of the Primary Teachers should be having monthly meetings with the Primary Presidency. Not only to receive pep talks, hints for lesson helps and also gentle,
oh so gentle rebukes, but also for the teachers to inform the Presidency of any problems, children who need special helps, etc.
While I was helping in Nursery for two months, I noticed one of the children who was not interacting with the other children. He was a brilliant boy, at 2 he knew the entire alphabet in English, Spanish and French! And he knew all of the numbers up to 100! But he would not play with the other children. If they touched him he would jerk away and pace up and down near a wall. He would allow me or the other Sister to touch him and hold him, but not any of the children.
Then I happened to read about Autism. I watched him more closely, and I dug out all of the animals I could find in the toy chest, and I asked him what each one was and I watched him very closely. He didn't know his animals, but by the time Nursery was over he did!! He never once looked directly at the animal, he would side-eye it. Then repeat what I said, then wave with his hand for the next animal.
When I told my Primary President this, she set up a meeting with our Branch Presidency Councilor, and when I told him, he set up a meeting with himself, and the Branch Presidency.
The Branch Presidency talked with the boys parents and they were so relieved that someone else thought their son had special needs. They were terrified that they were nuts. Because of their Autistic son they have moved to where they can get him the best schooling.
In between all these meetings the 'Suits' volunteered in Nursery so they could observe the little boy. I was thrilled with the quick response of the Branch Presidency, and this is just a wee example of a Prayer answered.
Turn to your Primary President often, and if she assigns a councilor to you, go to her. The Presidency is there not only to run Sharing Time and the Opening/Closing exercises, but also to help and assist all of the teachers in any way they can.
I'm not enthused about Primary now am I ~ giggle ~ nope not at all (tongue in cheek and grinning)
