Comments: What? The book was so boring... Way too many pages and the characters were so dull. It just dragged on and on thank god they made the movies... The books hardly do them justice.

Comments: I find the books much, much better than the movies. The first kind of scene, or chapter one(a long-expected party) was excellent more than half of the actual dialogue was in there, but from there, they lost it all. One of my greatest disappointments, was leaving Tom Bombadil out. He is a very interesting character, and one of my favorites. Lots of people say the Lord of the Rings (movie) was a three-hour-hike, I agree, but it would not have been so, if they would have included more things (such as Tom Bombadil). There was too much action in the movies, I suppose thats why many people like them, but I don't think Tolkien had such a video game, fighting, type of thing in mind. There is some fighting in the book, of course, but it isnt described as depicted in the movie. The characters, that were in there, were depicted great in my mind. Gandalf was great, the way he can change from cheerful and friendly, to giant and fearsome, I liked that. I think that anyone who liked the movies, wouldnt even enjoy the books, since there so different from each other. Books are always better than movies, and The Lord of the Rings, is a classic example.
I feel the movies did the books so justice and perhaps created a world that maybe Tolkien would have been ok with.
But the movie can and never will match the visual picture that you create when you read the words and map out the action of events in your own thoughts.
As much as everyone has said that the books were so much better than the movies for whatever there reasons are, most of them I wholly agree with, you have to realize that a movie would have be condensed and easily digested for someone who has absolutely no idea about the story at all. Unfortunately you can't go into the depth of detail that Tolkien did with some of his characters in a movie due to time constraints and the inevitable short attention spanned people that would be watching it. I absolutely love the books they are incredibly rich in detail, have a depth that is amazing and are a joy to read in my opinion. I also love the movies, yes they are not as accurate as the books were and left out things that I would have loved to see, like someone said before Tom Bombadil but I would have loved to see the Barrow Downs part of Bombadils piece of the story myself, but they are a solid representation of the characters, places and story as I think it was meant to be told.

Comments: The films were amazing, but the books were boring in many places. It went on too long. Tolkein fancied himself a poet, for one, which he was not. I skipped all the stupid songs. The films cut out the unecessary bits, and gave the story a better form.
Eg, when we're following Aragorn and the other two,¨Pippin and Merry, and Frodo and Sam at the same time. The book tells the whole story from one perspective, then the other, then the other. The films meld them together and we flit from one to the other quite comfortably.
And don't even get me started on the female characters in the books. Even Eowyn is essentially pathetic.

Title: Lord of the Rings: Movies vs Books
Comments: I loved the movies but I didn't see the theater releases. I was given the extended Gold edition and it turns out that every scene that was my favorite were scenes cut from the theater releases. So glad I didn't see them at the theater!
I almost always think the books are better- but I had trouble with this. The book had much more depth, GREAT whimsical poems, and interesting characters, but I absolutely CANNOT stand the chapters in the Two Towers with Gollum, Frodo, and Sam. It gives me the impression of a dull and lifeless landscape in which they are just walking, and walking, and walking. I finally made it, once, through those chapters, but I had to stop the book afterwards. And the movies, well, I had always grown up with the movies. Especially with the first film, I always love how the book is shown visually. BUT... There are too many action/combat scenes. I believe that both are great in their own ways to a point of which I can't describe which is better.
