Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Will announce today that he is resigning from Congress, a source close to Jackson said.

Jackson, an Illinois Democrat, had been undergoing treatment recently at the Mayo Clinic, which said in August he was suffering from depression.

Jackson, 47, won his bid for a 10th term in the U.S. House this month despite making no public campaign appearances and having been out of the public eye since May. Ref. CNN

Former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. Has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in the investigation into his alleged misuse of campaign funds, a Chicago television station reported Friday. Jackson, 47, resigned from Congress in November. He sought treatment twice for bipolar disorder at the Mayo Clinic and had been on medical leave since June when he stepped aside. Ref. USAToday

Dabbing at this eyes with a handkerchief, former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge related to using campaign funds for personal expenses.

"Guilty, your honor," Jackson responded to U.S. District Judge Robert Wilkins, after looking back at family members in the courtroom, including his father, civil rights activist Jesse Jackson.

"I used monies that should have been used for campaign purposes," Jackson acknowledged to the judge.

According to court documents, the former Democratic congressman from Illinois misused about $750,000 in campaign funds.

Once seen as a rising political star, Jackson could face up to five years in prison. The judge set sentencing for June 28. Ref. CNN
