New Passport

I heard nightmare stories concerning getting the new passport. There are people lining up at 3:00 or 4:00am (some as early as 1 am) in order to ensure they get a number that are given by 6:00am. What is this non-sense? How people who have small kids or elderly people handle this? What is your experience?

It is no secret that Trinidadians love to do things at the very last minute! This mad rush also contributes to the long lines and the ridiculous hours that people are willing to wait, just to be the first one, to receive a number. Every year, this problem becomes worse and worse. This is what happens when there is only one place designated to issue passports. It is interesting that the government fails to see the need, to have at least four other places in this country, to issue passports.

I applied for a renewal last year on 27 December 2006. I think that this is the best time of the year to apply for or renew a passport because many individuals are usually too preoccupied with Christmas and preparing for the new year. Of course, it would be prudent to visit the office as early as 7am, since there are other smart individuals with the same brilliant idea.

Personally, anyone who chooses to wait outside an office as early as midnight or 1 am, is their prerogative. I am hoping that these individuals may have the sense to remember, the gravity of the crime situation in this country. As for parents with young children, I certainly hope no one is cruel enough, to bring their kids with them, to wait outside the office, at this ungodly hour.

It seems like for children under 2 years old, you do not have to take them to the office neither be there at 6 at the morning, since children under 2 get the old passport, there are not long lines or long waiting periods. When the child turns 2, then you have to renew the old one to the new passport.

The above is true, but the difference is you must walk with:

1. Two passport photos
2. Written birth certificate if electronic is not available
3. Fill in Form B (a yellow form - NOT the electronic one)

You will get the old passport in a couple of days (they say).

Rather off topic, but...
I know I am new here and to this forum, but where are the dates on these posts?

I haven't filled out an application for the new passport and was told I could easily find it 'online', though I wasn't told the site. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi there, okay got them, thank you.

The forms I found earlier weren't these forms, these have the Coat Of Arms on it and the others didn't... which had me a little skeptical.

Well, the ones I linked you come from their official web site. I would suggest you to print a couple of them since they make it clear that NO mistakes are allowed on the form so unless you are a perfect writer wink.gif I would recommend you to have an extra copy just in case.
