Uhura decides to use the flare gun again given her success the last time. The flare hits the creature doing its usual destructive work until the vampire-like monster falls flat to the ground burning with crackling sounds being heard coming from within it. The smell of burning flesh is not welcoming at this time as you attempt to pull Major into the corridor.
At that same time...
Thomas tries to get away from the darkness but finds that he is now the victim of a large bite from the monster in the East room. Thomas' suit depressurizes with a loud hiss as he also screams out in pain finding Nathan's predator now upon him.
GM: Thomas takes -4HP.
In a parallel moment...
Nathan, now in the corridor heading South, makes his way to the ladder in the darkness with the faint light from the burning monster in the West room which is all that lights the outline of things for him to see. He shouts to the rest of the squad something that is indistinguishable to them as they are wholly involved in their own events at the moment.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Thomas, now in agnony, yells out for help and decisively Uhura turns and fires her flare towards the outline of the monster that is attacking him.
GM: I need a D100 roll form Uhura. A number the same or less than 70 is successful.
Nathan only sees the outlines of the corridor and the body of Major on the ground. Yelling, cracking fire and the bewilderment from darkness is cause for nervousness.
GM: Please say what you wish to do now and post roll result.
Uhura shoots at the monster causing it to yell like a banshee. It backs off of Thomas, much to his relief, and goes to a corner of the room. Uhura shoots again and in like manner the creature starts to burn and fall to the ground as the other monster did in the West room.
Meanwhile...
Nathan begins dragging body towards the ladder.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Uhura retrieves the beam and opens her first aid kit. An injection, antiseptic, and some stitches later and Major is at least conscious although somewhat bewildered.
GM: Major has actions again. He is on 1HP.
Thomas shoots the body of the zombie and then leaves the room to the corridor where Uhura looks over Major and Nathan.
GM: Nathan is on 2HP. Thomas is on 3HP. Say what you wish to do now.
Uhura tries to contact Greg but there is no response, not even interference like you heard on the upper levels.
You assemble yourselves again. Uhura keeps her trusted flare gun close at hand as you search each room.
With beam in hand you light the way. In the East room are items of lab equipment all strewn about in pieces. Body parts, blood and gore are all here. The site makes you sick, in fact everyone save for Uhura now starts to smell the impact of such purification that they did not notice before because of the sudden impact of the vampire like creatures.
In the West room there is more lab equipment, vials and other unknown items that make up part of the room that concludes it was used for testing / experiments. Unlike the East room there is no stink nor bloodied mess save for what was caused by your earlier combat.
In the North room it is rather clean, there is a large generator that is offline as well as a computer console that appears to be on standby mode. There is also boxes of supplies. Outside of the boxes reads: rations, clothes, personals, etc.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Thomas and Major take off their torn environ suits.
Uhura checks her detector in the North room again. The source of the radiation seems to be from the generator, a very sophisticated piece of machinery. The detector beeps a warning message:
"The radiation is not at a harmful level but it is still very close to maximum for safety. Protective suit advisable."
Thomas and Major look at each other after hearing the message.
Nathan looks at the generator, a big metallic box with no external moving parts. He then looks at the computer, a console similar to the one Greg was using in the Arctic Base's main entrance. After attempting to access the main program Nathan sees that it is running in a maintenance loop therefore making it not readily accessible. He attempts a bypass.
GM: Roll the D100 for Nathan. You have a 70% chance of success plus your skill level 1 in computers gives you +10%. A number under 80 is favorable. Everyone should still state their actions.
Nathan comments that the system was written in a language that is routine for him so hacking into it is no problem at all. The computer reboots and then the normal terminal screen comes up. From here Nathan realizes that it is the main computer program for the Arctic Base thus making him in control of the system generator and other facilities.
Excited by this find the first thing you do is power on the generator. At first the metallic box rattles and then hums, after about a minute the lights flicker and come back on. A cool breeze hits you from the air vents and you are now able to see the entire mess you are in.
The floor is a smorgasbord of feces, blood, guts and gore everywhere. Burning flesh scents consume your nostrils. You are amazed that you have been moving around in this filth for so long. The psychological effect of what you witness is not easy... Everyone but Uhura starts to feel very uncomfortable.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Nathan continues to unravel the main computer's available options. He discovers that he can do just about anything he wants with the environment, systems, generator and so forth.
Nathan sees the view windows / location of all cameras / microphones and just before he disables them he notices Greg still at the console of the main Arctic Base's room. At one point Greg looks up at the camera and frowns, he knows that you have access now. You can see him hurriedly start to pack his items and move towards the exit.
Nathan opens the main door. Major hurriedly makes his way up the ladder followed by Thomas.
At that same time...
Uhura pans the room. She sees many valuable items that could be used for experiments but because they are covered with the filth of the creatures she dares not touch them even with her environ suit still on.
Later on...
After a couple of minutes Major and Thomas open the main door of the Arctic Base and they are compelled to stand back as the cold arctic air hits them. Without protective gear they feel the bones already start to chill. You brace yourself as you see Greg running to enter the ATV. At that point it hits you! Without the ATV how do you get off this ice pad?
GM: Say what you wish to do now. Be specific as everything you do will be time sensitive.
