Major braces himself and runs out into the cold arctic air, the cold air hits him the same way a very cold early morning shower would. Thomas who follows closely behind feels no different. You both run and when in range you start shooting the ATV but the slugs bounce off its metal hull and tracks.
GM: Make sure you are tracking your slug count.
You circle the ATV looking for a vulnerable opening. Even the windows only scratched from the slugs that hit as they were made to stand extreme temperature and pressure. You can see Greg at the driver's seat starting the ATV's engine. At the side door you do see an external control panel that requires an access code to override the door.
At that moment... Uhura has now reached the main door of the Arctic Base and can see Tomas and Major ahead.
While all of this is taking place...
Nathan sees that the Arctic Base has global communication capabilities. You are able to access both the Net and anyone else on earth. All environmental systems are functional within the base.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Thomas and Major go to the front of the ATV trying to get Greg's attention by whatever comes to their mind. Greg is undaunted by his immediate task as the ATV is almost fully warmed up.
Near this time...
Uhura arrives and is guided to try and disarm the locked door through the external electronic panel but she can do nothing as she has no tools.
During this moment...
Nathan, still in the Arctic Base, tries to establish contact with someone 'familiar' via the communications components using his skill in this area, but unfortunately there isn't any details to follow and his memory of his prior association with the Base is still not clear. At this point he simply sends out an emergency broadcast....
GM; Say what you wish to do now.
Major and Thomas attempt to jam their guns into the tracks of the ATV, however this ATV is not low-tech and is made for the most extreme conditions so their looking for a 'space' in which to render the ATV inoperable is futile. While so doing the ATV's engines begin to rumble more as the tracks turn and Greg starts to move slowly and then faster away from your position.
At this point...
Uhura attempts to communicate with Nathan through her suit's comm link but there is no reply.
At the same time...
Nathan wonders about the possibilities of his new find as well as what the success of the others may have been when he sees a signal on his screen notifying him of an incoming comm link that has been temporarily blocked.
By pressing an area of the screen Nathan accepts the incoming transmission. He can now hear the voice of Uhura trying to contact him. You realize that the program used by the base is built around security and stealth so things are not automatic unless initiated. Nathan acknowledges and the rest of you go down the ladder to rejoin Nathan after first securing the main base door.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
While Thomas and Uhura looks on, Nathan uses the Arctic Base's scanner to search the surrounding area. On the screen he picks up a ground object moving away from the base. Nothing else can be seen.
Nathan searches the computer's storage for any history of the Arctic Base's activities and finds all kinds of media dated back 3-4 years, this numbers tens of thousands of all kinds of files. The computer requests to know what you are specifically looking for if you want more detailed output.
As you consider what to ask another incoming transmission is beeping on the screen, but once again it is blocked by the system. This time the computer warns that it is an external response signal to ascertain all facets of the area and occupants. Nathan has learned of this kind of technology before, it is high science that basically scans an object or place to know all about it, but Nathan is unaware of how it works exactly.
Meanwhile...
Major inspects the bodies of those who lay on the floor. There is no movement and from the mess left by the vampire-like creatures it is doubtful that the greatest of experimental drugs could not bring them back to life. Major then starts looking for anything not seen. From his observation and experience the base is meant to house people for a very long time and protect them from any kind of attack, not only physical but possibly intelligence attack as well. Sadly, there are no high tech weapons for him to procure but heavy knives that can be used as blades.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Nathan allows the scan to take place while trying to trace it but before he does a small window opens on the screen showing a man dressed in military gear.
"This is 9-ner, 6-er, bravo, from team alpha approaching your quadrant. We detected a distress call from your base over."
You confirm you sent the emergency broadcast. He responds,
"ETA for your base is T-30 minutes, sit tight."
The window closes and then opens back again after a few seconds. The same man inquires about the results of their scan: many bodies and four life forms in stable condition. He wants to know your status and situation.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Nathan attempts to copy the Arctic Base Computer logs and archives. As the process starts you notice that your portable computer's storage quickly fills up as there are recordings about every aspect of the base's activities, however after 10 minutes he is able to acquire them to his hand computer.
Your computer responds after 10 minutes: Copy failure, space not available.
Just then you get another communication,
"This is 9-ner, 6-er, bravo, our ETA is now 15 minutes."
Meanwhile...
Uhura finds some equipment necessary to collect samples of the experiments conducted, she begins going through the mess trying to ascertain what is worthwhile and what isn't.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Under Uhura's guidance Thomas and her try to salvage samples from the vampire like creatures now severely burnt and even more disfigured. There is not much trouble or effort in doing this especially with various lab equipment scattered about.
Meanwhile...
While in the process of copying major data from the main Arctic Base's computer to Nathan's hand computer he notices that the logs only go as far as before your arrival. It will seem that Greg was busy making sure that your mission to the base was not recorded. You double check and you see that current recording systems are offline. You feel frustrated that your presence there cannot be accounted for from the logs.
Your situation seems more bleak now making the battle with the vampire like creatures a more welcomed finish for you.
