I quite enjoyed the first trilogy but I think they went down hill a little after that. It's a little bit too cliched for me now, but old Tasslehof and Sturm and Flint, Raistlin, Caramon - ah once they were a great delight to read about. I recommend the first trilogy!

I'd rate Terry Brooks a little higher actually, though there are similarities.

Well, I shall always remain bias when it comes to this book series, because it was the first true fantasy book series I ever read. I have, and always will this book series. Chronicals were great and got things really rolling, but to tell I thought Legends was the all time high point. Its amazing to see that Raistlin, who wasn't even suppose to be such a big or favorite character, become what he was in that. it just had everything that you want from a book series. And Caramon became more of a person in it as well, standing out as his own character.

The books from the beginning were awesome. Now I like to read stories from Tad Williams. They seem deeper and draw the people out more, helping you to relate to each person in a different way.

Thumbs up for Dragonlance - but I can only imagine that it is tough to stay original and exciting for so many books.

I love Dragonlance, although whether that's due to some strange genetic memory (I am the geeky offspring of some rather geeky geeks) or actual quality, it's hard to say. Generally speaking, I don't consider any book as truly 'cannon' if it wasn't written by the Weis and Hickman team. I tend to allow some leeway for the more 'historical' books, such as the Barbarians trilogy. Also, I refuse to admit that Dragons of a Summer Flame is part of the Chronicles. It just isn't.

I grew up with the nickname 'Kender Kid', which was given to me by family and family friends, so you can all see my old connection with the series. Oddly enough, my favorite character isn't Tasselhoff. I'm a huge Raistlin fan simply because Margaret Weis made him so dang human. I think I've read Soulforge more than any other book in the whole series.

This thread alone has inspired me to purchase the old books off of amazon so I can read and own them once again. I was just reading 'Jester' a new book from an author who is not particular to that genre, and it shows.

If any of you have read the Annotated chronicles, which is the three original books in one, the authors side notes tell you much of the making of the first three Dragon Lance books. For instance, most of the three books was a Dungeons and Dragons game that they played as a module that they created. The idea of Bupu, a gutter dwarf that loves Raistlen, came from the feverish ravings of one of the writers when she was sick.

Dragon Lance was my favorite fantasy series because of the diversity of each character. I loved Tasslehoof Burrfoot because of his spontaneity and innocence. and I enjoyed Flint and his customary dwarven pragmatism. I would recommend the book first three books for 11 year olds and up.

Margaret's later series of the war of the souls seem more grim and adult like as well as the new series coming out. I've read the first book called Amber and Ashes.
