As Grouth suddenly decides to turn around and return to the Village he hears the voices of the lads,
"Man, stop... Stop we say!"
Grouth looks back to see the lads have dropped their hand cart and with house knives they move forward towards you in a daring way,
"What have ye Sir, what have ye in thy pockets, come show us now, run not."
Meanwhile...
Lady Godiva, sitting at the tavern, is approached by an old man who has been watching her since she came in. Noticing she has sat alone he decides to put on his most suave tone and gesture,
"A drink fer meh lady?"
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Grouth shows he is not afraid and draws his sword. The length of it amazes the young men but they still try to determine if he could still be prey.
GM: I need a Soul D20 roll for Grouth. If you fail then roll for combat. If you succeed and want to pursue the lads roll for combat.
Sometime during these events...
Lady Godiva offers her reply,
"Depends on what you expect it to lead to because the kind of hiring I'm interested in isn't for pleasure."
To which he responds with a smile,
"Meh Lady, I see thee only worthy of a kind offer of a drink and a meal nothing more."
He calls over a wench to provide hot grub and a mug for you to which the wench moves quickly as though he were the owner of the establishment.
The man continues,
"Word has spread of thy hunt for the Dark Cleric and I know thou hast been known to use they sword. I be in want of some help if ye be willing? May I sit?"
He puts a hand on the table and motions his body towards the stool as though he feels you will grant 'permission' for him to sit or that you have already done so.
Just then...
John enters the Tavern and upon seeing Lady Godiva otherwise engaged in conversation with a stranger he goes over to a table on the other side of the Tavern. A wench attends to him and he places his order.
GM: John's meal is 1 GP. Please say what you wish to do now.
Dante enters the Tavern and sees Lady Godiva and John both sitting at separate tables, it immediately seems odd to him especially the stranger with whom Lady Godiva is speaking. He then sees John move to Lady Godiva's table.
At that moment...
The old man talks about how wolves have been terrifying his live stock on the South Eastern side of the Village and he needs someone to put that issue to rest. Dante joins in at this point as the old man simply says,
"Friends of thine?"
Near this time...
Grouth generates an unwavering courageous aura that is terrifying to the young men. They begin to have second thoughts but one of the lead ones in the whole affair still thinks he can rival Grouth. The young rogue peasant flips his knife every which way to show his skill and then moves towards Grouth with something to prove. Grouth and the lad swing and slash but initially both miss. The lad gets too over confident and Grouth with one swish slashes his gut open and he falls to the ground. The other two lads have faces of shock and horror. They immediately start to run while leaving their hand cart behind.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Grouth tries to chase the lads but they are much faster than he is at the moment. They disappear into the surrounding forest. Grouth then checks to see if the pale young man he has slain still has life within him, but he does not.
Meanwhile...
Interested in the job you ask about the gold and the old man says the most he can offer is 10 GPs total and a hot meal.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Grouth searches the lad's body and comes up with nothing other than lint. They were probably desperate for something of value as they had none of their own. His weapon, a kitchen knife, can be taken but in your estimation it might not be dependable.
You go over to the abandoned hand cart. In it are some vegetables of not so good quality but they could make a few meals of soup if peeled and washed properly.
Grouth takes a hold of the hand cart and begins heading towards the Village but he is becoming very weary as the night is falling, you can hardly see more than 50 feet ahead, and you have already walked all day.
Meanwhile...
You accept the old man's offer but insist on more information about his livestock farm, the wolves, times and so forth to which he says,
"Why don't we go there now and I can show you around and tell you about it as we walk?"
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Grouth pulls the cart until his last muscle aches - he is exhausted. He then stops, moves into the forest, finds what he deems is a 'safe' area given the darkness as well as his close proximity to East City, and attempts to get rest near the cart. Within just a matter of a minute he is already in a fairly deep sleep being so weary from such a long day
GM: I need a Soul roll for Grouth.
Meanwhile...
The wench brings the food and drink for Lady Godiva and the old man pays the wench. Lady Godiva feels obliged to take it with her.
It is already dark when you file out of the Village Tavern and head out to the South Eastern part of the Village. This area is remote and secluded... Surrounded by forests to the West and North, the path the Death's Mouth on the South and open plains to the East. On your way there the old man describes his livestock as being mostly made up of 2 cows, some sheep and chickens. He believes it is wolves that are stealing his livestock. They come out when he is retired and hears the baas of his sheep when they are taken but he is helpless to do anything.
MAP: Grounds layout
You arrive at the old man's livestock farm after about 15 minutes. He shows you a small barn that you can rest if you wish and an outhouse to relieve yourself. The old man then retires to a small rickety house about 50 feet away from the barn.
You lookout into the old man's fields. It is dark, you can hardly see anything with the one half moon that is out tonight. There is a small perimeter made by a jagged wooden fence but you are not sure about everything nor how to really scope for wolves, you wonder what to do.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Grouth sleeps well.
Meanwhile...
You begin surveying the area. The fence is strong enough but the greatest weakness you see is the pond to the East. Anything or anyone that does not mind getting their feet wet can come though there.
GM: Say what you wish to do now. I do not need actions from Grouth until the farm group causes time to meet the morning.
Lady Godiva inquires of the old man about his lack of fencing on the Eastern side of the pond.
"I didn't think anyone could come though there the pond is fairly deep and it keeps the sheep from venturing out."
While the old man talks she peeks around but sees no one else. Noticing this the old man asks,
"Ye be wanting a cupper of infusion?"
Lady Godiva knows this to be herbs, sometimes bitter ones that are known to clean and rejuvenate the system.
Meanwhile...
The others check the pond. It is murky and fairly deep (about 4 feet at the center) you believe but the outer edges are shallow and easy to thread. The wooden fence only goes into the pond somewhat but someone daring... Like a wolf will find this easy to maneuver.
