Thus saith Sword specialist...Out of Character: We don't really have a choice. At least we know he is capable of somethings but not everything so he is probably a lower level thief that' why he didn't ask for much gold.

Thus saith AngloSaxon Noblewoman...In Character: While sipping her ale she looks for anyone in the tavern that might be wise enough to know about the dark cleric. Perhaps she can learn something though casual talk while she waits for the thief to return.
