Bully - Bullying - Bullies
Picked up a bully and body slammed him. Was he defending himself against a bully or taking matters into his own hands? What is your view?

Casey "the Punisher" - Page 2

Well...of the bullying that I had seen in elementary and high school, if you went to the teachers/administration and complained, they wanted to talk about it with the bully. Bullies love that! It wasn't much of a detriment to their day, because they likely have family problems of their own, behavioral problems, etc...and the help they need they aren't going to get from the counsellor and having to be picked out of class to go visit one certainly makes them really cheerful!

As far as getting the law involved...if they even show up at the school, they aren't going to do much unless the activities are happening at that moment. Not to mention, they likely are going to talk to the school officials first.

Sure, you can move your child to another school and hope that the same target they had painted on them does resurface at the new school. They likely wont have the bus service that you were probably getting, so they will have to be driven to and from school by mom or dad to school daily (might have a friend in another school that could help...but definitely not a guarantee). You could pull them and send them to a parochial school if you got the coin and fit the requirements, but not everyone does. However, when he has that chat with his new classmates about why he isn't in the school closest to his home there better be a pretty good lie coming or it will be like chum in the water all over again. Kids are just that way.

If you read what Casey said, they did suspend bullies that picked on him before, but since they came back...it really didn't help. Now, you could say...just expel the bully. Now...are you going to do that on the first offense...second...third...when does one officially become a full-fledged bully? I definitely don't envy the teachers/schools with having to deal with this junk. I would have cameras just about everywhere.

Casey does deserve to be smacked on the wrist for what he did if for anything just to not reinforce the results of losing control and snapping as something to replicate on a more frequent basis. But, the confidence that he got in himself that day for not allowing himself to be anyones punching bag, will do him a lot of good...no matter what the punishment that comes out the other side.

As you said, there is a lot of blame...but what I generally don't see is anyone taking responsibility for it. Casey shouldered as much as he could and he took care of it in a way that he really didn't want to do but was pushed into.

I felt badly for the bully after seeing the video (okay just for a second). I know Casey didn't really mean to hurt him and it makes wonder why he allowed other kids to treat him like that?

Perhaps I look too much into things, but Casey just doesnt appear to be a violent person by nature. Maybe it was his upbringing. Maybe it was just his nature. However, he can be pushed into violence if provoked enough...as the little guy found out.

Watch the video again. Notice that Casey appears in the beginning to just stand there. It seems like he is just hoping the verbal insults (guessing about his weight) and taunting stop and he can go on. But, the kid punches him in the face. Rocks him with a pretty good shot, as it looks like the little kid wasnt holding much back. What was Casey's response? He was hoping that was it ... Over. But the little kid came back and started to look like he was going to punch his face again. Casey just blocked it. Again...defensive and just hoping it ends and he can go on about his day. My feeling is that the little kid made a mistake by then starting to punch his stomach and toss insults at him. Casey has heard a lot of fat jokes and insults in his life and to be punched there and insulted by some little punk would be my guess as to what made him snap. And when he snapped, what did he do? He grabbed the kid. Again, just to make it STOP. He threw him on the ground to just make it stop.

Now he could have easily punched the little bully when he got in close. Trust me, Casey's full power punch would be quite a bit more than this little kids. He likely could have gotten 2-3 punches in on the little kids face before his buddies jumped in. However, that wasnt what he wanted. He just wanted it to stop. Even in a state where he lost control he didn't want to beat the kid...he just wanted it all to stop.

My Grandson, Vance [..] was expelled from his middle school for bringing two pieces of cigarettes on school property which had been given to him by his school friends' brother who was nineteen years old. Vance is only thirteen. He was scared and asked a friend what he should do with them, upon which the friend reported him to the teacher. The teacher then took him to the principal whereupon they called the Sheriff's department. He was expelled from his school for ten days, and then we received a letter from the Newton County Court System to come to court. We also went before the Board of Education whereupon they informed his Dad that they were subjecting him for the rest of the school year to Sharp Alternative School. We were devastated, only for two small pieces of cigarettes which were given to him. After enrolling him in this school my grandson was beaten up twice in the boy's bathroom, came home once with his new school uniforms torn completely off his body. He went back and met the two boys who were beating him up in the bathroom, and punched them both in the nose.

The next day a gang of their friends ran him and his buddy all the way to school bus. Vance was a fast runner, he made it safe, but his buddy wasn't so lucky. His buddy received blows which broke his ribs, and blood came out of his mouth. We had enough, my son took him out of this alternative school and enrolled him in homeschooling with Alpha and Omega. We were informed by the Sharp Alternative Counsellers that unless Vance finished out the school year at Sharp Alternative School he would not be able to attend Newton County High Schools, and we would have to pay for his schooling until he graduated. Now I ask you is this fair? By the way Newton County Juvenile Court System threw out his case and sent me a letter saying it would be sealed.

They thought it was ludicrous that they even brought charges against my grandson. So I truly do understand how this young man Casey would want to bodyslam this other boy. Something needs to be done to the Board of Education needs to wake up before the schools become empty. No Children should have to fight to attend school nor be beaten up by other gangs. Let's wake up and stop this behavior before it gets out of hand.

With all due respect, I don't believe you are getting the full story or I am not getting enough background on this to even begin to answer if it was fair. However, what I can say as having been a 13yr old boy, if I had gotten 2 little bits of cigarette...I would thrown them to the ground. If I didn't do that and kept them, then I wouldn't be asking a "friend" what to do with them...because you either smoke them (with your friend) down some more or throw them away. Also, you have to do something more or have a bigger history to get tossed out of school for the rest of the year.

I remember being about that age and my friend had two little bits of cigarettes that he got from his older brother. He didn't ask what we should do but more like how should we light them and where should we hide to smoke them. It really was cool back then, but really didn't enjoy the actual activity luckily!

Your grandson punching them in the nose pretty well illustrates my point above. If you are going for revenge, you would punch your attacker. If you are just trying to stop the situation, you grab them...the thrown down was just an exclamation point.

But to answer your question with what I know at this moment, no, it isn't fair that your grandson got suspended for two cigarette butts. Just make sure that he knows that he is not to physically touch tobacco, alcohol or drugs. Just possession is a punishable juvenile crime.

Casey "the Punisher"

Dear Sir:
What I have written is the absolute truth leaving nothing out concerning my Grandson. And yes we have asked Vance why he just didn't go to the bathroom and flush these down the toilet. Or simply throw them away. When you are thirteen I guess you do dumb things. He told his Dad he forgot he even had them until they began to smell in his jeans pocket. Then he began to be afraid when he realized he wasn't supposed to be at school with these two pieces of cigarettes. What bothers me the most about it all though is the Board of Education realizes that this Alternative School is not helping any of these kids, and only creating gangs of teenagers. Vance told his Dad that one of the teens in this class when asked by the teacher what he wanted to be when he grew up he responded by telling the teacher he wanted to become a drug dealer and make lots of money. Sharp Alternative School by the way will be closed down next year because of the violence there, but that doesn't help my son or my grandson one bit. We will have to pay to home school him from now on until he graduates. My son has a chemical imbalance to the brain, and I am his administrator, I am also my grandson's administrator as his mother has given him to his Dad, she doesn't want him around. When they received the letter to appear before the Board of Education no one notified me until after they had made their decision concerning my grandson. I made the trip to the Board of Education but got nowhere. Mr. Berry never returned my calls, and you cannot find him in his office when you visit. I am not the only unsatisfied citizen with this Board of Education or with this Sharp Alternative School. Alpha and Omega Home School teachers are well aware of what is happening in Newton County Schools. Despite the hardship this will place upon my son, and myself to pay for this schooling, I don't regret my son's decision to remove him from Sharp Alternative School. Vance is much happier and he has not complained about the amount of work he has to perform. I would like to add one thing before he got into all this trouble he made excellent grades at school, and had never been in trouble before.

We can lay blame of Casey but do any of us really know how he feels? I know what bullying is like and its plain awful and very stupid but it makes you feel worthless and depressed. After awhile it tires you to bits and you just feel like fighting back. The idiot here is the kid teasing him, he's lucky he didn't get worst than what he did.

The bully's mum actually apologised to Casey and as Casey was up for expulsion for what he had done (at first), she stood up for the larger lad. I don't condone violence of any kind, however when I was young, I was bullied. When I first saw the video, I was just wishing, I had had the guts to do that when I was his age. I just hope this doesn't follow Casey for the wrong reasons. Having said that, I don't think anyone will ever bully Casey again.
