Helsinki city council delays Kalasatama eviction decision

Helsinki city council told on Monday that it had not yet reached a decision on what to do with the some 20 Romanian Roma beggars residing at a disused port in Helsinki's Kalasatama. Since the weekend, the Roma beggars have been accommodated at the Satama Social Centre instead. However neither location is considered fit for long-term residency due to fire safety regulations, according to the by the Finnish National Rescue Association. The provision of this temporary accommodation was to end on Monday, but due no decision having been reached it is to continue on Tuesday.
