Estimates from US and European sources place potential troop contributions from NATO allies from 3,000 to 7,000, while Washington would send in between 10,000 to 40,000 troops. Obama finally decides Dec. 1
After weeks of deliberating, thinking, and generally wasting time as he tries to figure out what to do with Afghanistan, President Barack Obama finally has made a decision. Americans Are Deeply Involved In Afghan Drug Trade

The U.S. Set the stage for the Afghan (and Pakistan) war eight years ago, when it handed out drug dealing franchises to warlords on Washington's payroll. Now the Americans, acting as Boss of All Bosses, have drawn up hit lists of rival, "Taliban" drug lords. This move was obvious hence he wanted to delay saying what he was going to do. The Russians used all their resources and had to finally surrender to Afghanistan's hard core fighters, what makes the US feel that after almost a decade of fighting they can still bring Afghanistan under 'control'?
