Name: Yeniseri

Comments: One cannot bring a stone age country up to par to even 2nd World status in 2-3 years, or even 4 when 1/2 the population is forbidden from being part of an educational process. The schools where there is a 'foreign' presence are the exception so the girls and not the rule.

USA cannot go around the world imprinting its own democrazy on others but it can instill a working model on the host nations it occupies to straighten up its act and form a united front towards the enemies of peace and freedom.

That is doable. If the host nation does not see a need to modernize its educational institutions then it is in within US interest to leave that country and let them 'fend for themselves since they have the answers.

Obama speaks in 'enemy camp'?

That's according to Chris Matthews of MSNBC. Most people think of West Point as friendly, unless you are a terrorist and now apparently TV hosts on MSNBC. Glenn reacts to that audio and the actual speech, which of course included the usual apologies for America's past mistakes. The real magic was when the President managed, in one sentence, to talk about how vital it was to win Afghanistan -- and then said 'we'll bring them home in 18 months.' Huh? Ref. Source 9

Why Obama's Surge in Afghanistan?
By Shamus Cooke

Obama is compelled to tell the really big lie because the truth is too damning. If he remotely approached the real motives behind the war, the public would be pushed into total defiance - Obama's new $660 billion military budget for 2010 would have caused mass demonstrations. Ref. Source 1

By David Sirota

Would you be OK sending yourself or a loved one over to face combat and potentially death for the mission Obama articulated in Afghanistan? If not, how could you support sending other people? Ref. Source 8

The science of the Afghan insurgency

From Archimedes to the A-bomb, science has served as one of war's handmaidens. But with warfare facing an era of insurgency, science has increasingly started to turn the microscope on conflict itself. In particular, with President Obama this month announcing 30,000 more U.S. Troops are headed to Afghanistan, atop 68,000 already there, some scientists are asking the question: Is that enough? Ref. The attack mentioned in the News above is now confirmed by the CIA. I'm surprised they are so readily open about it. Usually these things are kept secret or passed off as 'civilian engineers'.

international QUOTE (CNN)
CIA Director Leon Panetta pays tribute to the seven agency employees who he says were killed in Afghanistan fighting for a 'safer America'.
