QUOTE
Taliban use beheadings and beatings to keep Afghanistan's schools closed

The letter pinned overnight to the wall of the mosque in Kandahar was succinct. "Girls going to school need to be careful for their safety. If we put acid on their faces or they are murdered then the blame will be on their parents."

It is amazing the level of barbarism that exists in Afghanistan, how can a country where most men think like this ever get off the ground? "If we put acid on their faces..." are they serious? I am sure they are, I wonder how they would feel with acid on their faces? What is also amazing is the fact that in the same sentence they want to cover their butts by saying that the blame for that would not be upon them, but the parents?

It's just sick.

The article also states that the Taliban are back, very strong and "boastful" of weapons and money. The Coalition forces, it says, seem to be bombing indiscriminately, to little effect and increasing resentment. Even Karzai seems a bit put out by it.

Where does it go from here?

It is amazing how time flies, can you imagine that it is five years already and still the coalition forces are fighting renegade forces all over Afghanistan? I heard over CNN that a lot of the Taliban fighters are being paid double what the Afghanistan military is being paid, so you can see where the earnestness is coming from along side the religious hot pot.

QUOTE
In recent months the Taliban has seized control of entire regions of the country. The security situation has worsened as suicide bombings are up 600 percent this year. Opium and poppy cultivation are at record highs. NATO forces are suffering their highest casualty rate in five years. We speak with Sonali Kolhatkar and James Ingalls, authors of the new book, Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords and the Propaganda of Silence.

Now that is a big catch for the US/UK forces there, especially the UK forces since I believe they were under attack most times in the Southern region of Afghanistan by Mullah Dadullah.
