I think that Afghanistan is a no mans place right now. While we control the major cities they Taliban are controlling the rural areas. We need to get more troops in there to take it and hold it long enough for the main government to establish control over all of its area.
Obama's War: US Involvement in Afghanistan, Past, Present & Future
President Obama is speaking before a joint session of Congress Tuesday night in what is being described as the first State of the Union address of his presidency. While the economy is expected to dominate the agenda, Obama will also talk about his top foreign policy initiative: the war in Afghanistan. Last week, Obama ordered an additional 17,000 US combat troops to Afghanistan. The new deployments will begin in May and increase the US occupation force to 55,000. Today, we spend the hour looking at US involvement in Afghanistan with five guests: Anand Gopal, Afghanistan correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor; Paul Fitzgerald and Elizabeth Gould, authors of Invisible History: Afghanistan's Untold Story; Gilles Dorronsoro, visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and documentary filmmaker Kathleen Foster. Most Americans Support Decision to Add Occupation Troops in Afghanistan
By The Washington Post
About two-thirds of Americans support President Obama's decision to send approximately 17,000 additional U.S. Military forces to Afghanistan, and, in stark contrast to the sour public reception of former president George W. Bush's "surge" of troops in Iraq, support for Obama's move crosses party lines, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Ref. Source 5
Obama says U.S. is losing the war
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama declared in an interview that the United States was not winning the war in Afghanistan and opened the door to a reconciliation process in which the U.S. Military would reach out to moderate elements of the Taliban, much as it did with Sunni militias in Iraq. I was surprised to read that. I think by saying the US is losing the war in Afghanistan does the following:
1. Give greater morale strength to the Taliban and other terrorists
2. Undermines the work the troops are doing there
3. Make the US look very weak
4. Makes coalition countries feel disheartened by their sacrifice and input
Obama could have been more positive in his statements.

If he thinks the US is losing, why is he sending more troops over there? And what is this nonsense?
