A crackdown is coming on bad behavior toward referees in the English Premier League. League chief executive Richard Scudamore also said Thursday that highly paid soccer players are becoming increasingly isolated from the real world. Coach Sergio Batista says it may be difficult for Carlos Tevez to make Argentina's Copa America team. Batista has left the Manchester City forward off the team since he declined in November to play a friendly against Brazil, saying he had a leg injury. West Ham's Cole accused of improper tweets (AP)

West Ham striker Carlton Cole has been accused of improper conduct by England's Football Association on Friday for tweets about Ghana fans made during England's exhibition. The Football Association said Cole has until Wednesday to respond to the charge. Around 20,000 Ghana fans were in Wembley Stadium for the 1-1 draw on March 29.

US group signs deal to buy Roma (AP)

A group of American investors led by Boston executive Thomas DiBenedetto announced Friday they have signed a deal to buy three-time Italian champion Roma. Under the terms of the deal, DiBenedetto's group will pay around $100 million for a 60 percent share of a new company that would own roughly two-thirds of the Serie A club.
