Why was he on a ferris wheel without his mother? Why would the mother and the ride operator agree to that? This is completely unacceptable from a parent, I would never let my six year old on a ride by themselves like that.

This is ONE of the reasons I do not like amusement parks in general (the dangerous rides) I just do not understand why people like them at all! rolling eyes

CNN) -- A teen who lost her feet in an accident at a Kentucky amusement park has undergone surgery, a park spokeswoman said Friday, while two park operators closed similar rides around the country.

The Superman Tower of Power at Louisville's Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom was shut down after Thursday's accident, and Six Flags spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg said Friday the company closed similar rides at parks in St. Louis, Missouri; Gurnee, Illinois; and near Washington, D.C., as a precaution, The Associated Press reported.

Another park operator, Cedar Fair Entertainment Co., closed drop rides at Kings Island near Cincinnati, Ohio; Canada's Wonderland in Toronto, Ontario; Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia.; Carowinds, in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Great America in Santa Clara, California, the AP reported.

"We're going to keep these things down until we're certain it's safe," Cedar Fair spokesman Craig Ross told the AP. "We'll wait and see."

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom spokeswoman Carolyn McLean said she has been in touch with the injured 13-year-old girl's family and believed the girl is still receiving treatment at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Hospital spokeswoman Julie Gordon would not discuss details of the surgery or recovery, citing patient privacy.

The girl's name was not released because she is a minor.

The girl's feet were completely amputated just below the ankle Thursday afternoon while riding the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville.

Her feet were recovered by Six Flags staff and were sent to the hospital with her, McLean said.

Another sad end for those who enjoy amusement parks. Don't take me wrong, I like some of the rides but there are some that are ridiculously dangerous.

NEW YORK -  An accident involving a gyrating ride at an amusement park north of New York City left a young woman dead Friday night, police said.

The woman was killed while riding the Mind Scrambler ride at around 9:30 p.m. at Playland Amusement Park in Rye, said Westchester County Police spokesman Kieran O'Leary. The indoor ride has cars that travel in a circular path while also rotating themselves.

Emergency workers responded quickly, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, O'Leary said. He said the woman was about 20 years old.

Police were still investigating early Saturday, and no details about the circumstances of the accident were available. The woman's name was not released because her family had not been notified, and it was not known whether she was riding the Mind Scrambler alone or with friends, O'Leary said.

The ride and a surrounding section of the amusement park were closed after the accident, but the rest of the park remained open, O'Leary said.

In this case, it doesn't not seem to be the responsibility of Six Flags, still I wonder what was the kid trying to do? Poor kid and family.

AUSTELL, Ga.  -  A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he hopped a pair of fences and entered a restricted area Saturday at Six Flags Over Georgia, authorities said.

Six Flags officials are uncertain why 17-year-old Asia Leeshawn Ferguson of Springfield, South Carolina scaled two six-foot fences and passed signs that said the restricted area was both off-limits and dangerous to visitors, spokeswoman Hela Sheth said in a news release.

Authorities were investigating reports from witnesses who said the Ferguson jumped the fences to retrieve a hat he lost while riding the Batman roller coaster, said Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce. Police have declined to release the teenager's name until an autopsy is completed.

Six Flags said it closed the roller coaster after the Saturday afternoon accident out of respect for the Ferguson's family....

Deadly Rides At Amusement Parks

First off I would never let a child younger than 12 ride a ride by themselves. As a parent I take ride safety to heart. Most rides are very safe if you follow the rules. The rules are clearly posted and it is usually when someone does something against those rules that they are injured or killed.

Every now and then the ride will break down. Or something will go horribly wrong. In these cases it is not the fault of the park or the ride. It is like riding in a car. You can be as safe as possible and do everything you can to be safe. But all that is needed is one horrible event. It is not your fault that it happens but sometimes things happen. If we could see them coming we would never allow ourselves to be in that situation or on that ride. I feel that fate has a way of appearing when you least expect it.

Where were the parents of this toddler? *shaking head* My heart aches seeing this child died in such a tragic way.

QUOTE
A British toddler has died after climbing onto the rollercoaster tracks at a London fairground and being struck by the ride.

The fairground at Ducketts Common is now closed to the public.

Keith Miller, general secretary of the Showmen's Guild, told Sky News Online: "I understand the young boy had just finished playing on an inflatable ride and then ran over onto the tracks of the Go-Gator."

"There would have been a barrier surrounding the rollercoaster but he must have found a way around it."

Miller said the ride operator saw the two-year-old boy on the tracks and rushed to stop him, but it was too late...

two big questions I have on this. Where was the parents to allow their two year old to get close enough to this type of ride to injure themselves. Where was the security measures at? There should have been some sort of fence or barrier that prevented anyone from entering the ride area except the entry exit point point. Those gates should be locked during the rides operation. Clearly something was not done properly. Two things that went wrong and now a two year old is dead.
