I read this. I am not convinced it is true. I think I would remember it on the news if it had really happened. It is quite possible this is nothing more than an e-book. He does ask for donations before you read the ending, even though they aren't required. He also speaks of it as being written for entertainment and gives a link to read some of this other stories.

Comments: I agree, story's a fake, no mention of the name of the bank or junk mail company to look up and verify... The chap is a "motivational speaker" and "entertainer" and has spent the last 17 years trying to make money out of it....very suspicious. Now story has appeared in the august 4th 2012 edition of the financial times, but no mention of the date this event happened.
