Saskatchewan

I grew up in Saskatchewan, and spent about 18 years of my life there. To draw a parallel, it's much like the Shire in the "Lord of the Rings". Saskatchewan was settled my many different cultures, mostly in the turn of the 20th century. My relitives from Ukraine, settled in an area about an hour West of the Manitoba border, about mid-province (North-South). Contrary to popular belief, all of Saskatchewan is not flat as a kitchen table. I come from the parkland area, which has a lot of trees, and slightly rolling terrain.
Some facts that people might not know.
Saskatchewan is:
The worlds largest producer of Uranium
The worlds largest producer of Potash
A major producer of cereal grains
A major Canadian supplier of oil (some of it is heavy)
Diamonds have been found in Saskatchewan, but as of yet, they are not mined here.

international QUOTE (TerrenceBeck)
The worlds largest producer of Uranium

Interesting fact, where does all of that Uranium go - internal or for export?

The vast majority of Uranium is for sale on the international market. I believe that the major users have contracts with Cameco ( The province of Saskatchewan is the largest shareholder). The yellow cake (uranium) has to be enriched before it is useable as fuel in nuclear reactors. Canada has only a few Candu (Canadian designed) reactors. I believe the French derive a major part of their electricity from nuclear energy.

For those of you who do not know, BHP Billiton, tried unsucessfully to purchase Potash Corp. Of Saskatchewan. Again the Saskatchewan government is a major shareholder.
But BHP has major plans to enter the potash market, with a new mine, again in Saskatchewan.
