Comments: Is there a reason that the Japanese did not give in to the threat of an atomic bomb from the US before it happened to avoid the unnecessary death and destruction?

Comments: The Imperial Japan phylosiphy is that they should fight to the death. Even before the threat of a Nuclear Bomb being dropped, they constantly flew damaged aircraft into our ships (later designing aircraft for that purpose). It was their Idea of Honor.
