(but polish by far seems the most complicated language I heard).In polish you can not use in  many cases the same words if you are a man to a woman than vice versa. Which in english is just I love you, te amo, ti amo, but in polish there are different words if you are a man declaring to a woman or the other way around.

Oh, but I am certain that there are more complicated languages wink.gif. I tried to learn German once, where there also are different structures for each gender, but however hard I tried, I couldn't ever remember what went where and when. It was horrible.

But that was an offtopic, I'm sorry..

Speaking about Japanese, my friend once told me that it's very easy to learn spoken Japanese. You can verbally communicate with it, but you won't be able to read any newspapers. Is that true? And how easy it is to learn it?

Personally, however, I would like to learn Chinese.

Your friend is a silly noodle. If you want speak Japanese, it is compulsory that you learn to read it too. Or you will not get anywhere! ^_^ Japanese is not easy language because you must be very polite in all situations. There are several different way to speak in Japanese and if you do not want to look like silly noodle then it is nice that you know all of them. ^_^ Trust Iriko.

Chinese is a good idea! It is very easy and the character are not hard to learn. Chinese is exremely simple to the point of having no definate past tense or plural. There is not polite way to speak in Chinese and the sentence structure is more like American! Easier for you I think.
Off-topic, silly Iri.

Irikosan I agree with what you said if a person can read Japanese and read it they will get much further, but that could be said about any language. I have yet to pick up learning Japanese again but the language and culture still fasinates my soul. I do listen to Japanese music, this also I believe would aide in learning the language. Would anyone agree or disagree with that statement?

*Agrees with that statement. ^_^

It is helpful to listen music in Japanese, provide the lyrics translated into English come along. The sentence are structured usually and this can help you pick up one or two phrase.
THOUGH watching Japanese TV without English subtitles onscreen will not help you at all! I have seen friends to try doing this but is fruitless to learn. Many americans try and do this but ultimately come out sounding much like a very rude child. ^_^;

Recently, I have started paying attention to Anime. Listening to the voice actors and watching the subtitles is somewhat helping. While I can't practice with anyone were I live because no one else speaks it. Do you believe this is a practical way to help in understanding Japanese. I also Do this with Chinese movies.

*Shrug* I am sorry I cannot be of service. I am not clear about your situation and here fore my opinion is cannot maybe be valid. ^^;;
Some people absorb language - like sponge. Like me. Other people must have native speaker/foreign fluent speaker around to become good in fluency... I am not you, so I sorry I am not sure about how your mind work! ^_^

Everybody is difference, personally I think it is a good idea as this help me with my English. But watch in Chinese is not quite as useful because Chinese character come into play in a very difficult way.
Chinese word are limited. The word ''li'' can mean forty different thing if you do not know tone or character... Chinese sometime do not understand eachother, too! Japanese kanji is not so as common and recurring so it is not a problem to watch Japanese movie with subtitle.
I hope you understand... ^^;;
