Suppose you are stuck in an elevator what should be done? What are the risks involved of trying to climb the wires? If it begins to fall would you survive better standing, sitting or lying flat?
If I were stuck in an elevator, I would use the phone that modern elevators have to call for help. If that weren't an option, I would press the alarm button continuously until someone came to help me. I would not get out and try to climb the wires, etc. If you did this, how would you open the doors at any of the floors to try to exit the shaft. What happens if you are in the shaft and the elevator starts to work again.
I might also try to pry the doors open to see if it was stuck between floors and if I could then climb up and out through the closest door opening.
As far as what to do if it is falling, I am not sure. Modern elevators have brakes or anti-fall protection that is supposed to work at each floor so that the car should only fall one floor at most. Service elevators often don't have this safety feature. Also, they are generally the least well maintained, so if you find yourself in a falling elevator, it is probably a service elevator.

Oh gosh, I saw so many movies about it that I don't think I could be able to do anything, I just hope if that happens to me I can be next to a guy like Mc Gyver (spelling?) I'm sure he will know what to do

yeah, but think about it. I heard of terrible stories on an elevators, that's why I think they're really creepy if you asked me, I'm not afraid of being enclosed what I'm afraid is if I may have to jum the wires and stuff. I don't think I could make it.

I panic slightly getting into an elevator, but that's because of a deeply imbeded fear I have obtained from watching Resident Evil.... evil movie. What sucks is if you're going up in a glass elevator 750 feet in the air and the guy at the controls keeps talking about it breaking down. I only have to say about the position, if you stand, make sure you don't lock your knees or your legs will end up shattering on the impact. I'm sooo glad I don't live in New York, .
