Mormons & Modern Society

Comments: The FLDS do the best they can to keep their strict dress, appearance and conduct according to their religion. You can see that by the air styles and fashion which by today's standard is not fashionable at all. Why is the church trying to fit into society so much? Why shouldn't our women be happy to wear long dresses and keep their hair long.
Are you talking about FLDS women or LDS women? I can only comment on LDS, but I grew up around girls that would wear long dresses to church every Sunday and even on occasion to school (when you have a seminary building with 4 classrooms, you tend to have a lot of Mormons in the school as well). I guess that doesn't quite answer the question though, you wanted to know why they shouldn't be happy. Well, 1. If you attach heals to the dress who would be happy and 2. There's a reason that newer fashions are in use and it's usually not because they're of the devil or if you show too much of your shoulder then you'll go to hell. At least I don't think that's the case but I do understand the catch 20/2 about respecting morality in general. I guess it depends on the girl and who you're around. It's not fun to stand out no matter who you are and if you're the only girl that'll wear great grandmas dress to sacrament meeting well then maybe you're weird but if everyone around you is wearing great grandmas dress, then you could get on with actually thinking about what's being talked about in church instead of worrying about why the cute boy 3 pews over from you keeps looking at you and snickering at his friend. Oh, and how great grandma had that many dresses, that'd be weird too.
Erin, why should our women wear long dresses and have long hair to prove something? I don't think is necessary. I am in the group that thinks that once you dress modestly and you are clean, there is nothing else you should worry about. Whoever doesn't like it, it's their problem.
