Being nice to people is ALWAYS fine. Butt Kissing is being nice for the expressed purpose of gaining an advantage over others. This too is also fine. However, those that engage in this activity will get the ire of their fellow employees and should expect it. One thing I can say is that some of the people that engage in this activity have a tendency to go a bit further. They tend to maliciously knock down their fellow employees during their Butt Kissing. Now this behavior is not acceptable in my book, as it usually contains lies and slandering of fellow employees. If you choose to employ butt kissing as a career strategy, it is a lonely path and you do have to be able to look at yourself in the morning. If you do not employ butt kissing as a career strategy, be prepared to figure out good ways to promote yourself and your work. Unfortunately, in todays business world, the quality of your work many times does not equal your reward.
