You have probably experienced static electricity in your daily life at one time or another. Walking along a carpeted floor in the winter in a heated environment will generate enough static electricity to shock you when you touch a door knob or another metal object. Maybe you have seen or heard it in action in your laundry when clothes are removed form the drying cycle.

Static electricity could charge our electronics. Static electricity is one of the most common, yet poorly understand, forms of power generation. A new study suggests the cause of this hair-raising phenomenon is tiny structural changes that occur at the surface of materials when they come into contact with each other. The finding could someday help technology companies create more sustainable and longer-lasting power sources for small electronic devices. Source 4c.
I always find it weird to have static electricity in the oddest of moments, but never to the point of a full spark when I touch something. It'll be funny that science will find a way to exploit this ability and perhaps amplify it as a sort of self power.
