What do you think about the Barbados / Trinidad & Tobago issue over fishermen from Barbados coming in our seas to fish? Is it over exaggerated? A political pawn? Basically Barbados fishermen want to come into Tobago waters to fish for the famous 'flying fish' which is actually synonomous with Barbados, but the Trinidad & Tobago government wants to impose restrictions and fees that Barbados fishermen are not willing to pay and abide by, thus Barbados is now threatening T&T Business men in Barbados with more restrictive sanctions on their exports to Barbados.

Well, this is about oil and gas, it seems that Barbados wants more of the 'pie' as it were that Trinidad gets from its territorial waters.

You don't think that there is an invisible force pushing Barbados? Namely USA? Doesn't USA import about 70% of our natural gas? And isn't there some sort of tension between us?

And I know you are probably not aware of this, but do you know that we import vegetable seeds from USA? Hybrids?
Let's use corn as an example. Using corn seeds from USA we get close grained corn. But do you know that if we tried to replant those seeds, it doesn't grow? So we must keep importing?
Does this ring a bell? Remember this is how they held an African country by the balls?

Cakelady I hear a Trini speaking about that (the US conspiracy against African states) before, but I think it is ridiculous really, but who knows. As for the US involvement... I really do not see what the US would want to bother its' head about such a tiny little thing in the big cheese that it has to eat.

What I am surprised about is Guyana's sudden involvement.

I think some people are exaggerating about this whole issue, also I don't think Trinidadians in general realize how small this island really is. The US has no 'serious' interest of any kind in this whole situation. In my humble opinion, this whole issue is only about fishes, not about gas or anything like that....

Am I wrong in saying that this small island is the 3rd largest exporter of oil and gas to the USA? If so, then are we really small?

And if I agree( I do not) that fish is the only issue, do you know why it's an issue?

One thing has nothing to do with another in my humble opinion. Trinidad could be the largest exporter of oil in the world but it doesn't change the fact that it's an island and the fact that is a small one. But again, the thread is not about whether we agree on the size of it or not.

Yes, I know why it's an issue...and it has been an issue between Trinidad and Barbados for a very long time.
