Minnesota Twins

I have lived in Minnesota for the last 7 years, so I've developed some interest in this team. For years I detested the Twins because they dispatched the Braves in 1991, but I have come to realize they were just a better team that year. The Twins have enjoyed some success in recent years, winning the AL Central division the last 3 years, but the playoffs has not been kind to them. The closest they came to the World Series was in 2002, but they lost in the ALCS to the eventual World Series Champions Anaheim Angels.

Today, the team looks a lot different than that 2002 team, losing such players as Jacque Jones, Corey Koskie, Luis Rivas, A.J Pierzynski and Joe Mays. Torii Hunter has been the mainstay with the team through the last 5 or so years, and the pitching staff is anchored by 2004 Cy Young winner, Johan Santana. The division has become a lot stronger this year with the White Sox winning the World Series in 2005, and a Cleveland team on the verge of greatness. Can the Twins make a run at another division title and possible a World Series appearance?

Twins Minnesota

Minnesota has a small town team that is easy for me to cheer for. I am a Royals fan, but never have a playoff team to cheer for. The Twins are a team that show that you can thrive even in a small market. They consistently have a semi-competitive team every other year for a couple years. This shows the brilliance of their management that can keep putting out quality prospects year after year.

The Twins are really stinking it up early in the season. They've been shutout a number of times and currently are 7 games below .500. I didn't think losing Jacque Jones would hurt their offense that much, but other than Torii Hunter, everyone else's bat has been silent. I do hope they can turn things around. Even the pitching staff which is normally not that bad is having problems.
