Underdogs

Human businessmen who love challenge will often attempt to derail a monopoly or secure market business earner via a new wave of products and services. What are some of the underdog companies you have seen that have become giants today because of their approach to the market?

I don't know of any right off the top of my head that are current underdog companies. However, one of the biggest monopolies in the world started out as an underdog. Remember that Microsoft started from nothing competing against big blue IBM. Dell also did the same thing taking on the market starting with nothing. Both became large companies competing and beating the larger companies of their day.
