Our cat has taken one of her kittens under our house via a hole behind our bath tub. I've tried to prevent her taking the other two down there and have spend the afternoon in a battle of wills. I've tried to get her to bring the lost one up and not take the other two down. At times locking the carrier with the remaining two cats.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to ....well...reason with her to bring up the single kitten? I am at a loss.
That's a tough one Miriavas because female cats tend to be very sensitive towards their kittens and they can get quite aggressive. Did you try to bribe her with some sort of treat? Also why is she hiding the kittens? Do you have any dogs or other animals? (she may feel threatened).
Crisis averted! my 17 year old is a skinny little hobbit and was finally able to get a hold of the lost kitten.
I know exactly why she is so upset. We had a large party for my Mother in law for mother's day and my young nieces were completely enchanted with the kittens. Even though I tried to keep ogling and handling to a minimum, I know that was her trigger.
We have her settled in a cupboard very securely, and the bathroom door shut. She seems to be getting the idea that the crawl space is a no go. Bless her heart. It's her first litter and she was loudly opinionated before the mothering instinct kicked in.
