Comments: Is it possible to be so pessimistic that you are literally afraid of good fortune and anything positive that comes your way? Does this condition have a name?

Fortune Good Afraid Being

I don't know if the condition has a name, I don't even know if it is a 'condition' however if you're gong through a hard time or you're clinically depressed anything good that happens in your life you won't see it in the same light than the rest of people.

It's not a condition. I believe it's basic social engineering.

There are many outlets that tell us constantly that we do not deserve things. Right Wing politics in the United States has a strong basis in this idea. If you didn't craft it, think it or directly participate in the origin of something then you do not deserve it no matter how it might benefit your life.

Right Wing politics in the U.S. Strongly believes in a social Caste system based in Capitalist ideals. Money is God. Michael Parenti, in his book Democracy for the Few, talks about the disenfranchisement of the majority of Americans from the political system and how money impacts their ability to participate in their own government. This begets a great deal of pessimism here in the U.S. Regarding our country and our place in it. The U.S. has become run by business interests that serve themselves, not the people, and encourages cutthroat and immoral behavior to "get ahead" at the expense of others.

Stick with me here...

Rather off topic, but...
Christianity is also a prominent force here is the U.S. The church holds similar views to those of the Right Wing, but with a slightly different outcome. They still hold to the "bootstraps" principle of working hard and improving your life through your own efforts. Others cannot be depended upon to improve your living standards for you nor should we expect them to.

Similar at the start. But then religion includes the principles of helping others, offering aid and be happy to do so! Giving being a better blessing upon your life than recieving. Why? Because it means you are successful! When you have enough to give to others it is a sign that you DID work hard and got what you were working for.

Sooooo... For those of you who are still awake:

We have two powerful forces that start at similar positions and end up crashing together in a cataclysmic upheaval of our psyche. We are encouraged to work hard and produce tangible results for our own benefit. We are then struck with the choice: to give or to horde. The secular will punish us for giving and the religious will wag it's finger at us and make us feel very guilty for not giving. Thus do we often feel that though we have worked hard and are deserving, we do not really deserve "good fortune".

We didn't earn good fortune, it just comes of it's own volition and we're just gonna horde it anyways.
