UN investigates DaimlerChrysler

The United Nations is investigating DaimlerChrysler. The automobile company is suspected of having broken the UN sanction against Iraq during Saddam Hussein's regime, and of having paid bribes for transport into Iraq. A spokesperson for DaimlerChrysler confirmed a report to that effect in the magazine "stern", but declined to make any further comment, as the investigation is still underway. According to statements in the magazine, DaimlerChrysler supposedly exported trucks to Iraq as part of the so-called Oil for Food program and transacted the business via the Moscow firm "Russian Engineering Company". According to the US Senate, this Russian firm, with strong ties to the Kremlin, played a definitive role in abusing the program. And the suspicion is that as part of that, bribe money was paid. In response to questions on SWR radio, DaimlerChrysler announced it is supporting the ongoing UN investigation.

Money makes the world go round. For money, a company with deliberately disobey and international sanction, even under the guise of a legal exchange for food. Its amazing what risks and chances companies will take for just a few hundred thousand more dollars. If they are found guilty, they should be punished hard.
