CCN has come a very long way from their debut to now. TV6 itself has gotten better overall but the news could use one major thing, follow up. News is sensational but no investigative journalism to follow up with what happened. We need som undercover operation and some more demanding questions of politicans and the police.
Yes I do agree that TV6 news has improved their outlook but now, they need to send all their reporters to train abroad. The quality of news is extremely poor at TV6 and all the other stations for that matter. I remember one night, hearing a young reporter commenting on a primary school and mentioning this:
"The girl pupil had complained..."
Imagine that! The girl pupil! Where did this reporter go to school? Did anyone ever teach her about male and female students or pupils. Girl pupil is a local expression and should not be used in reporting. I always shudder and hope that no foreigners are watching! I think the problem is, getting involved in the media is not very easy. The hours are long, the job is very demanding and stressful and in some instances, the pay is very poor. As a result of a high turnover, the television stations seem to be focusing on appearance rather than quality reporting. Yes it is important to be well groomed but even more important to speak standard english properly. After all, Trinis are not the only ones viewing, foreigners are watching too!
You really can't hold them for grammar when the country's leaders do the same. I think the anchors should go among the people more and pick some educated ones for comments. I get frustrated with the no brain comments they pickup from people knowing nothing about nothing.
