The first computer I ever used was a family one. It was an IBM with a 166 Ghz processer. The only thing I did on it was play games and the only game we had was Mechwarrior 2. I can't remember how old I was when we got it though.
Now I have my own computer and it is an Acer with a 200 Ghz processer. Pretty week but hey... >_>'
My first computer was a compiled mess from a bunch of spare parts from many different machines that I purchased not working at a junk auction when I was 14. I got it built up to the big time running MS DOS 3.1 and I was really hot when I found a copy of Windows 3.11. I believe I was able to get a 400 MB hard drive and about 8 Megs of RAM.
I got my first computer in 1985. It was an Atari 130XE. 128KB of memory, no hard drive, 5.25" floppy. It was backwards compatible with the Atari 800. It was much faster than a Commodore 64, especially at loading programs.
In 1986, I got an Apple IIc. What a great computer it was! At the same time, I began to really learn about computers and software, by getting Byte magazine every month. I fell completely in love with the Atari ST and Amiga computers, but was never able to get an ST. Eventually, I did get an Amiga 500, and I still think that was the best computer possible. If Commodore had really worked it, it could have easily outdone any other computer on the market. The OS was amazingly effective, and even Apple took some of the features of it and used it.
Finally, in 1991, while working for a computer store, I got my first PC, running MS DOS 3.0, then Windows 3.0 (eventually getting to 3.1). I have moved forward from there, culminating with my present Mac iBook G4.
