1. Consider what has already been used and come up with something that hasn't been done before.
2. Find a skilled artist that could help you. (Also if needed find someone that is a good writer or at least can help with grammer and other editing.)
3. Try it online first to see how it takes off. For example take a look at these comics by searching "Inverloch" and "Dreamkeepers". Both are good webcomic series that later became actual comics that sold well too. Both show the kind of professionalism needed to make a good comic.
