An Insult To Believers?
Please consider the following quote and place your thoughts about it within your reply:
All thinking men are atheists.
-- Ernest Hemingway
I don't think he was being insulting on purpose but I can understand where he's coming from. But you see, religion was never about facts and proof but about Faith, believing in something that you cannot really prove. If that makes me a person who doesn't "think" so be it.
It shows lazy thinking on his part and that he's arrogant. Also, the whole thing about the atheist being the person who lives by proof is absolute nonsense. There are only two things that an individual can prove. The first is that he thinks. This is a direct experience. The second is that he perceives. This also is a direct experience. Proof beyond this point fails. It is impossible to prove the reality of one's perceptions because you can not get out of yourself to validate them. It could all be your imagination. The number of things that the atheist takes by faith is beyond reckoning. He starts his car with out checking to see if someone has tampered with it. He goes to a restaurant and orders his food and then eats what is brought to him even though he didn't watch the preparation to prove that it was not adulterated.
Anyone who says that they live by reason and not faith is either ignorant and shouldn't be offering oppinions on the subject or is a liar.
