I've only done it twice myself. My first husband did it so often that we had spare keys all over the place! The first time I was lucky I could call my husband and he brought me the spare set of keys.
The second time, different car & I was single by then, I had to have a locksmith come out and let me into my car. It cost me $25.00 that I really couldn't afford. A replacement window would have cost lots more.
Now had you asked how many times have I locked myself out of the house. . .that's a different thread!!!
I have only done this once, and it was when I first started driving. Luckily my aunt had a spare, and I had to call her to come to where I was located and unlock it.
It's happened to me three or four times in my lifetime. Once, I broke the lock on my "hatchback" and climbed in through the back seat. Mostly, though, I called the auto club or a tow truck to come out and pop the doors. Ouch! That's at least $50! Trains one to keep track of one's keys

There was a guy in Church whom we regularly had to help get his keys out of his locked car. We recommended to him to get one of those belt clips where you attach the key to a wire (similar to telephone wire) so he would not forget it. Well it happened one day that he still locked his keys in the car, yes, with the wire still attached to the key inside the car and the clip on his belt outside the car - after that incident we gave up on him ever remembering to get his key out of the ignition before locking the doors. The same thing still happens to him even today.
As for me I have done this a couple of times, but never had to face any waiting because usually the door window was ajar or I knew how to get the door open using a wire.
This has been a regular occurence in my life, let me tell you. I used to keep a spare key in my purse. That way, as long as I didn't also lock my purse in the car, I din't have to call anyone. I don't have one in my purse now because I lost the third key. I have one and my son has one and one is missing.
Once, I actually locked my keys in the car at the gas station. I got out to pump my gas and locked the door . They weren't happy with me at that station. I was blocking the pump!
Man oh man a subject near and dear to my heart - I used to lock my keys in my old van all the time. I got so accustomed to it that i just kept a wire hanger in my tray at all times. until a friend locked his keys in his van and i turned up to help and he took the hanger.
Anyway my wallet lives on me so i just made a spare key and stuck it in my wallet. Worked wonders for me, i actually left my van running with the A/C on used the spare - was always cool no perspiring for me.
Now i have a peugeot 206 which does not allow u to lock the keys in the car because of the power doors and i still managed it once - long story hah.
I just got a car so I've never done it myself. But it sounds like something I would do very often, too
I have locked myself out of my house many a time, and will probably do so with my car as well
