The Dallas Mavericks are having one of the best years in franchise history and find themselves only one game back of the Spurs. However, since they are not a #1 seed in any of the Western divisions, they are currently 4th in the playoff race. With key wins recently against the Spurs and the Clippers recently, and an improved defense over the last few years, it would seem Dallas has all the keys to the Championship puzzle. Let's now also forget Dirk Nowitzki is having a career year and is atop many of the MVP ballots. Is this the year Dallas finally makes it through the tough Western Conference?
This should be an interesting playoffs this year. Both the mavs and the spurs lead their series 1-0 and may have the chance to play each other. Mavs are talented, but the Spurs have the playoff and championship experience. If the Mavs are going to become a championship team, they will have to excel past the more experienced teams. They have played well all year, talent will absolutely not be an issue. I look forward to seeing strike down the grizzlies.
The Dallas Mavericks rolled over the Memphis Grizzlies in game 2 of the NBA Western playoffs, after a rock start in game 1. The final score was 94-79 and Dirk Nowitzki was once again stellar, putting in a 31 point performance. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas sweeps a very good Memphis team en route to round 2.
After a sweep of Memphis, the Dallas Mavericks now face the #1 seeded San Antonio Spurs. This will undoubtedly be the best matchup in the second round of the NBA playoffs. Dirk vs Duncan. I predict it will go all seven games. I'll be watching this series intently.
MAVS SMOTHER SHAQ, TAKE 2-0 LEAD TO MIAMI
Even Mark Cuban's postgame celebration was a bit reserved. The Dallas Mavericks had a decisive two-game lead in the NBA finals -- and this easy victory almost felt too easy against the beaten, battered Miami Heat.

It seems like the Mavericks almost ran out of steam at the end. They got the 2-0 lead in the Finals, a magical start to a dream series, and then it all got away from them, losing the next 4 games.
Post Finals, the Mavericks are getting ready to deal for Austin Croshere, who will be a nice backup to Dirk Nowitzki. If they can keep this core group of players, and add some others, they certainly have a chance to make another run.
