Texas Gov. Rick Perry will not appear on the Virginia primary ballot after submitting a petition that didn't meet requirements, the Virginia Republican Party announced.
The Virginia GOP wrote on its Twitter feed: "Rick Perry did not submit the required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary."
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also submitted petitions to the Virginia State Board of Elections.
The state party spent Friday verifying that the submitted petitions met the requirements to appear on the March 6 ballot. The Virginia GOP said on their Twitter feed Friday that Romney and Paul had both submitted enough signatures. This leaves only Gingrich's status uncertain.

Rick Perry Now Opposes Abortions in Cases of r-pe, Incest
At a pro-life presidential forum last night, Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry announced that he had a change of heart on abortion in cases of r-pe or incest - now opposing abortion in such rare cases.
Perry said his change of heart came after meeting with Rebecca Kiessling, a pro-life attorney who was born after her birthmother was a victim of s-xual assault.
"This is something that is relatively new and it goes back to a meeting with Rebecca Kiessling, who was at the The Gift of Life," Perry said about meeting her at a recent showing of the new movie. "We had a fairly lengthy and heartfelt conversation about how she was conceived in r-pe. Looking in her eyes, I couldn't come up with an answer to defend exceptions for r-pe and incest." Ref. Texas Gov. Rick Perry has told supporters he is dropping his Republican presidential bid Thursday, two sources told CNN. Perry's campaign has scheduled an 11 a.m. ET news conference Thursday in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Perry entered the Republican race in August and immediately jumped to the top of most polls, but a series of poor performances in debates sent his numbers crashing in subsequent surveys.
After a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses, Perry announced he was returning to Texas to "reassess" his campaign but decided a few days later to continue and concentrate his efforts on South Carolina, which holds its primary Saturday.
Perry virtually skipped last week's New Hampshire primary, where he finished last with 1% of the vote. Most polls in South Carolina show Perry trailing the field, with his poll numbers in single digits.
