Rick Perry called crazy for merely stating facts on global warming (audio)
Not shockingly, the media has gone into hysteria mode now that Texas governor Rick Perry has thrown his hat into the Presidential ring. Chris Matthews was so concerned he said 'can you imagine having a President who doesn't believe in evolution or global warming?' -- the evolution thing is strange coming from Matthews, a so called Christian. Maybe Nancy Pelosi can go grab her favorite 'Word' and read a little bit from Genesis to Chris -- in the meantime, Glenn plays the audio of the latest phony outrage directed at Rick Perry. Ref. Republican Debate Has Rick Perry With Most to Gain, Lose
Tonight's Republican presidential debate at the Reagan Library will be the first one featuring pro-life Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has the most to win or lose following his entrance into the contest.
Perry made his GOP presidential bid official weeks ago and he has quickly vaulted to the top of the polls nationally and in leading battleground states like Iowa and South Carolina. That's a change from previous debates, where Mitt Romney was the frontrunner and much of the attention was on whether other candidates would pile on him in an attempt to become the top alternative to the former Massachusetts governor.
Since his announcement, the focus has been entirely on Perry as many Republicans looking for a viable conservative alternative combining a pro-life position, experience and record and who were not enamored with the field to that point have rallied around him. Perry's quick climb to the top of the polls has some pundits already suggesting he is the likely nominee, but others say the debate is a critical first test for him to determine whether he can withstand hard questions from the press and potential criticism from Republican rivals looking to boost their own campaigns after spending weeks eating his dust.
Two Republicans have already launched attacks - including Rep. Ron Paul, who released an ad focusing on Perry's stats as a former Democrat decades ago who, like millions of other Americans shifted to the Republican Party as the Democratic Party continued its leftward move over the years. The Perry camp immediately hit back, noting that Paul ran as a presidential candidate in 1980 on the Libertarian Party ticket, with many libertarians backing legalizing drugs, using a gold-standard economic system and advancing other political ideas outside the mainstream. Pro-Life Gov. Bobby Jindal Endorses Perry for President
Bobby Jindal was once on most pro-life and conservative short lists as a potential presidential nominee; now the Louisiana Gov. Is supporting his neighbor for president, Texas Governor Rick Perry.
CNN broke the news today that Jindal would support Perry's campaign as an endorser and he will join his fellow governor tonight in Florida as the Republican presidential candidates engage in the next debate - the second to feature Perry following one last week.
"Rick Perry is the candidate who can lead our party to victory in 2012," said Gov. Jindal. "His record on job creation simply cannot be beat, and the one million jobs he's helped create as governor is a stark contrast to the 2.4 million jobs lost on President Obama's watch. President Obama promised hope, but he simply hasn't delivered. Rick Perry will bring our country more than hope - he"ll get America working again."
Perry responded, saying, "I truly appreciate Gov. Jindal's endorsement because he is a leader who knows what it takes to rebuild an economy and restore people's confidence. His efforts to cut taxes and reduce unreasonable regulations are helping the Louisiana economy grow, and that is exactly what I aim to do for America. I look forward to continuing to work with him throughout this campaign, and with his help, we"ll get America working again." Ref. Source 7
Bill Clinton: Rick Perry's like Israeli 'militants':
Former President Bill Clinton suggested Thursday that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was ideologically in line with "militant subgroups in Israel" and was too willing to let the Jewish state do whatever it wants. Ref. Source 8
Rick Perry Says Drug War 'May Require Our Military in Mexico':
"It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their networks. I don't know all the scenarios that are out there but I think it is very important that we work with them, to keep that country from failing." Ref. Source 3
Rick Perry Touts Pro-Life Record at Values Voter Summit
Rick Perry, the Republican Texas governor seeking the GOP nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, touted his pro-life accomplishments during a speech to a crowded house at the Values Voter Summit event.
"You know, there are millions of Americans that are born into less than ideal circumstances. Maybe they were born into poverty, born without a parent. But as a society, we must stand for the principle that every life - every life - is worth living, regardless of the circumstance," he said. "In America in America it's not where you come from that matters, but where you"re going. As Americans, we must affirm the value of life, not just in our Declaration of Independence, but in the way that we live."
"For some candidates, pro-life is an election-year slogan to follow the prevailing political winds. To me it's about the absolute principle that every human being is entitled to life. All human life - all human life - is made in the image of our creator," he said. "And every innocent life must be protected, from the most frail, who are elderly, to the most vulnerable, who are unborn."
"That's why as governor I have consistently worked for pro-life legislation, policies such as parental consent for minors seeking an abortion, a ban on third tri-semester (sic) abortions, an informed consent law," Perry added.
During his speech, Perry referenced his signing of a bill to revoke the taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in his home state of Texas. Ref. Source 6
53 seconds Rick Perry would love to have back
The gaffe heard round the world happened at the GOP debate last night when Rick Perry declared he would shut down 3 bloated government agencies. He named the Department of Commerce, the Department of Education... And then it happened. He totally spaced the last one. Even after thinking about it for what seemed like an eternity he couldn't come up with the answer. He's joking it off today, but has the damage already been done? Ref. Source 9
Rick Perry Endorsed by New Hampshire Pro-Life Advocate
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry today received the endorsement of the president of a statewide pro-life group in New Hampshire, the location of the second GOP primary election battleground.
Kurt Wuelper, the president of New Hampshire Right to Life, which is not affiliated with the National Right to Life Committee, endorsed Perry this afternoon as the best pro-life candidate to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama in next year's presidential election.
"I know that Gov. Perry unequivocally believes that life begins at conception and does not waiver in his protection of the unborn, unlike some self-professed pro-life candidates," said Wuelper. "But more than just talking the talk, Rick Perry has shown he is a man of strong faith and strong action."
He added: "He has a proven consistent record of protecting innocent human life and has signed more pro-life legislation than any governor in Texas history, including the Parental Notification Act, the Parental Consent Act, the Prenatal Protection Act, and the Woman's Right to Know Act. That's why I am supporting him for President." Ref. Source 4
