I wouldn't use it to "compliment" someone. I might, however, use it in the slang sense, about a job, or position, or a product. For example, in engineering, the design engineer is considered the "sexy" position, while the manufacturing engineer is considered the "grunt" work. (I am a manufacturing engineer, and have absolutely no desire to be a designer.)
So, I voted "yes", although I would have preferred to have voted "rarely".
I will say that I might ask a young man if he is TRYING to be sexy with his style of clothing, or something to that effect, although I doubt I would say something like that to a young (or adult) woman other than my daughters.

Comments: Despite their similarities, the words "sex" and "sexy" are very much different. Sexy is just another word for hot in my opinion.

Comments: I think it is good to look "sexy." The word is more commonly used to describe beautiful, georgeous, attractive, good looking, pretty, etc. There is nothing wrong with using the word "sexy" when it's coming from sister to sister or brother to brother (except in church meetings as our focus must be on the Lord and not what your friend is dressed in). However, members of the opposite sex should never use this term unless dating or married. It's a little too flashy of a word. Instead, you could say to the opposite sex "You look nice today." That would be more appropriate. I always try to look sexy and urge my wife to do the same. You can look "sexy" without dressing inapproptriately. In fact, my wife looks sexy every sunday in her church dress.... People with high self esteems typically like to look good and looking good (sexy) does not mean that you have to dress in a way that the Lord would unapprove of. I think dressing nice and looking sexy makes us think better of ourselves and without a doubt, increased our self confidence and esteem which is a good thing. We are sons and daughters of the Most High so we ought to look and dress nice.
I completely agree with Andrew. The word 'sexy' is just a word. Foul language could be any word, it's all in how it is wielded. Irresponsibly or responsibly, respectfully or disrespectfully, the word and variants of damnation are written a lot throughout the scriptures, as well as whore, and hell. They aren't 'bad' words, but they can have very negative connotations attatched when used in certain context. Let's just say that education is much more important than most people realize. When one's vocabulary is broadened they have more words from which to choose when expressing themselves. Also, maturity goes a long way in these matters. Word or not word (you guys can rationalize it any way you want) the question of the opening thread is:
Actually, SuzieSu, the title of the thread is "Is 'Sexy' A Bad Word" and I'm addressing that question. Now, I was not rationalizing, as if I'm trying to make something inappropriate appropriate. The context in which you gave examples would probably be inappropriate, but the word sexy in and of itself is not inherently 'bad'. It is the context in which you use it that CAN make it bad. But it can also be use in a wholesome manner. Like the other examples given, if I want to tell my wife that she is sexy, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact it's a beautiful use of the word. Just like sex isn't in evil act, but actually a beautiful experience between husband and wife, sex can be made into an evil act when used and abused outside of wedlock.
