Inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O"Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins) , who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. I knew what the movie was about but I thought Anthony Hopkins would have had a more sinister role. I was glad they added the skeptic element but they did nothing to keep you wondering at the end, it was more believe or else. I was surprised it was based on a true story.
The Rite had me somewhat interested in where it would go with the divine vs fraud aspect but it was an utter slap in the face when they quit the intrigue to go for its real and it does happen scenario. If you like demon possession stuff you will like The Rite because it focuses on that, I thought it would be more of a thriller with thought behind it.
