Sitting at the Table

There are many styles of dining... French, Russian, English, etc. There are some basic things everyone should know (unless you are in Arabia), what are they for you?

Example: No matter where you are, always follow the host.

1) If there is several forks, spoons and knives remember using them from the outside to the inside of the plate. (the spoon or fork closest to the plate is the one you should use last).

2) Your napkin goes always on your lap.

3)You never get up to reach the salt or anything else, you ask to somebody who is closer and if somebody asks you the same thing, you slowly move the salt to the point of destiny WITHOUT moving it from the table.

What do you mean by this? Do you mean you need to slide it instead of picking it up to pass it? I didn't know this. What do you do at a table that has a lot of dishes and bowls of food, etc. between you and the person who has asked for it to be passed?

Here is one that should be obvious, but...don't talk with food in your mouth! smile.gif

Here are some obvious ones or maybe not so obvious as I see this happening a lot:

1. Wash your hands before coming to the table
2. Cough away from the table
3. If you have a bad cold do not come!
4. Do not wipe your snat on the napkin and then rest it on the table

You're not supposed to have a set of bowls of food on the table in the first place, that's why it would be easier to slide the salt instead of picking it up.

Don't leave your crumbs in the butter! In other words, if there is a separate knife to serve butter, you put the butter on the bread with that knife, but use your table knife to spread it.
