It is going to hurt many to me the bigger issue is going to be the cost of food may go through the roof.
we are at 113 per litre so 4.52 per gallon us. They are warning to expect 1.3 to 1.4 per litre this summer. so 5.60 per us gallon.
I personally do not think that price is outragous though it will hurt for a bit. In 1986 I was paying 0.89 per litre or 3.56 per US gallon.
If a 3 percent price increase had been applied every year we should be paying 6.82 us gallon.
I would like to see it lower but just keeping a realistic view.

Tips for Saving Money at the Gas Pump
Inflate Your Tires, Empty Your Trunk, Get Oil Changes Regularly and Other Tips
American drivers are now paying an average of $3.51 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas, up 12 cents from just last week, according to the government's Energy Information Administration. The price of gas is up 64 cents a gallon from the same time last year and now tops the inflation-adjusted record price of $3.41 set back in March 1981.

It definitely has affected food prices here. Locally, gas is $3.75 up to over $4.00 in some places. My last fill up was $65! Many won't be traveling as much this summer, and already three local airlines have gone out of business. It's not looking good, at least in the short term. Long term? It's anyone's guess.

One quick tip for beating the pump is they usually measure low if you fill up slow. I used to work for consumer and corporate affairs in Ontario and we tested gas pumps. Due to inefficiencies in the meter on the pump at slow speeds it does not measure as accurately as when it runs full speed. It might not be much but it all helps.
I fully expect to see 1.40 per liter this summer so that is another 20 cents per liter and 80 cents a gallon.
Only good part is now we can put the heat back on the governments to ban any car that gets less then 30 or 35 mpg US.
In Ireland they have 3 cylinder and 4 cylinder turbo diesels that can out run most anything we have on our roads. When idling say on radar duty the car consumers 1 liter of fuel all day! So call me crazy but we need to separate the motor companies from government and from the nasty oil producers.
It s politics we are fighting here not the lack of know how.
