Ice quickly finds herself behind the old cart with Althea just behind and over her shoulder, both of you pull arrows in desperate fashion and aim for the entrance to the room. Sokei dashes for the space right behind one wall. The torch is extinguished, it is dark and all you can see is the slight flicker of light from outside the room.
"Speak up or die I say!"
The voice continues to yell. You choose to say nothing in reply and so you listen... and listen... and it must be the first time where silence has actually made you feel very afraid. You feel as though death is near your door, knocking, knocking ever so loudly until you imagine sounds in your head.
Footsteps can be heard outside of the room near the tracks that lead south to north. You see more light and you guess that there are now more people out there. Then you hear something frightful...
"Kramar! Bastian! Where are you men!? Get them! Get them! There are enemies in the mine! What are you doing?!"
You are amazed by the yell of the one outside shouting at you in the room. You are confused, but now realize that he is shouting at those below!
The hole in the ground begins to light up as you hear footsteps coming from where you saw the five men busy at work. The ladder creaks as weight burdens it... they are coming up!
GM: Say what you will do now. You now have two entrances to cover, one below and right behind Althea and the other from which you just came. Be specific in what you will do now. If you keep your current stance just say so and the story will continue.
Seeing the new difficulty Althea goes to a position near Sokei in the hope of being a support for him in guarding the entrance to the tunnel.
Ice turns to focus her attention on the hole in the ground where the light of a torch is making the room more bright. You hear the person coming up the ladder saying,
"We be coming boss, we be coming"
Ice, with tensed bow, shoots an arrow while aiming for the first head she sees...
Swish, the arrow leaves the bow and ends up in the forehead of the unsuspecting victim. With a quick groan the man falls and you can hear that the others below get caught up on the dead weight that falls on them.
You hear yelling and angry voices of surprise and panic as yet another head looks cautiously this time trying to determine where you are...
You fire again... with the same result this time getting him a little above the nose bridge.
Shouting once again is heard and whatever torches they had there are now out. The place is in darkness when suddenly on the other end battle cries can be heard. Sokei looks quickly down the corridor to see a man moving quickly with torch and sword. Sokie decides to throw his spear...
The spear goes through the man's gut and he falls to the ground half way down the corridor, but he seems to be still alive. His torch now lights up some of the room and the corridor.
Another man comes down the corridor but with different approach, he moves side to side and then attempts to roll into the room. Sokei seeing this tries to swing at the same time in hope that the man's invasion does not succeed... blood gushes from the man as Sokei is accurate enough to gravely wound the man, but he still penetrates the room.
Ice decides to get in on the action and having already armed herself with another arrow fires... the man falls dead.
The place now goes quiet and the only light apparent is from the torch that is still on the ground in the coridoor. The injured man with spear in gut tries to move himself to safety and seems to be slowly succeeding. You do not see any light nor person on the other end to help him.
By the hole in the ground you see no light nor hear anything, you are concerned why all would suddenly become so dead.
GM: Say what you will do now. If you wish to keep your current positions just say so and the story will continue.
In the hole remains dark, but in the tunnel going south to north you can hear movement of sorts, you are not sure what to make of it. Later you hear the sound of squeaking as though something rusted is being moved. You feel something is being planned... something planned for you!
GM: Say what you will do now.
Ice whispers gruffly to the others. "Son of Gun!!! What do we do now? There are at least 3 more strong men below, and another 4 outside of this room in the mine. Who knows how many others there might be. We need to get out of here somehow and quickly! Sokei, take a quick look and see if you see anyone out there. If you don't see anything, grab that torch get it in here and put it out! Hurry man, but stay low! Get your spear back from that man while you are at it, if you can."
Sokei nods in agreement, peers around the corner, sees nothing and then quickly goes for the torch and spear from the man now almost into the tunnel. As Sokei's hand reaches for the torch he sees an eye looking at him from within the tunnel.
"Get him!"
Sokei suddenly sees the metal of a short sword coming down on him while he is in an awkward position. He dodges the oncoming blow and uses the spear back at his assailant and hits him in the leg. Now erect Sokei seeks another attack but misses as the man moves back enough to avoid the spear hitting him again. The man seeing an opportunity strikes back and manages to hit Sokei such a serious blow that it causes him to fall backwards. With wound in leg the man does not pursue but gives opportunity for his comrades to enter the short corridor after Sokei.
Meanwhile... the man that was dragging himself on the floor is now into the tunnel having been helped by some other men outside.
GM: Say what you will do now.
It almost seems as though a number of men are anxious to enter the corridor to attack, however the one that is almost upon Sokei trusts with his sword, but Sokei parries and turns the man's hopeless try into an attack that wounds him sorely. Then with the man stooped over because of pain Sokei brings up his spear and trusts into his gut causing fatality.
Sokei uses this opportunity to stand. As yet another is already upon him and Sokei is not sure how long he can keep this up.
GM: Say what you will do now.
Sokei pauses this thought in enough time so as to acknowledge his opponent who is with angry face and muscular grip on his sword which for the most part almost seems to thirst for your blood. Sokei swings and misses but follows up with a death blow that leaves an once angry face to one of despair as the man slumps to the earth.
The man behind this fallen foe seems to see death and becomes afraid of Sokei's onslaught and delays a second or two...
GM: Say what you will do now.
The man is pushed into the corridor by some more bossy types behind him with shouts of...
"Don't be an old hag in the Village market, get after em' already!"
You can see that this is not what the man wants to hear, but seeing that he is between a 'rock and a hard place' he lunges forward only to meet the spear of Sokie through his gut.
Sokei grins at the man's mishap, but it is Sokei who regrets as the man still has life sufficient to raise his sword and hit Sokei a blow that not only cuts him, but causes that he drops to the floor with a groan (near the mouth of the room). Sokei is now unconscious, but you can see from his slight tremble that he is not dead.
With wounded gut bleeding profusely the man pulls the 'metal stick' from his belly, quickly throws Sokei's spear on the ground, and begins to stagger backwards bracing his hands against the wall and saying to those in the tunnel...
"I bleed! I bleed!"
GM: Say what you will do now.
Ice calls out... "Hey, you out there! Who be your leader? Let's talk! I don't want to die, do you? We have already shown that we are worthy opponents. You might out number us and maybe you will eventually kill all of us, but some more of you are going to die along with us. We don't want no trouble. We were just exploring a mine. No harm meant. Let's talk about what it will take for use to end this peaceable like. Unless you want to die too. Are you sure you won't be one of the dead ones. Look around. You already have 4 dead and more wounded. How many more have to die for nothing?"
A gruff voice replies...
"You speak of talk at this late hour where you have spilled blood and are trapped? Do you not see that your doom is set despite your current luck? There be nothing you can offer us and this day you shall meet the fiery depths of hell!"
GM: Say what you will do now.
