Well the first person needs to carry the torch to see, I plan to be right behind you to protect you. I don't think a bow will be any good once we are inside. We will need to use swords then.
O.K. So, let's drop the canary and say if the canary comes up fine after 5 minutes in the hole we are going in. Maybe we can send Horde in first with the torch, but I don't know if we are allowed to tell him what to do or if he is in control of the GM. I suppose we can ask Horde to go in first and if he refuses have already decided who will follow. In any event, if Althea or Elda go first with the torch, I will be right behind them with my sword at the ready.
Actually, it occurs to me that with the door flung wide open like that, any gaseous substances would have dispersed, I think. Although I don't see any harm in hoisting the bird in first. We'll have to start including Horde in any Party Order we post, if just to help keep him from acting without any direction at all.
We should also try to stick to the originally stated "party order" -- Sokei first, etc. But since he's got no armor, someone else should go in first. Is it Horde or Althea? I've no problem with Horde and then Althea first with torch -- we should still be looking for traps -- and Ice and Sokei with bows/swords at the ready. Elda can be lookout, although it's getting pretty dark outside.

"Horde, ya big galoot, HUSH!!" Althea whispers hoarsely. "Do ya want to bring all tarnation down upon us?? Whist! The only good new is, ye may have scared off the wolves...."
Peering down the hole within the small circle of torch-light, the ladder looks sturdy enough.
"I'm ready to go in and look a bit, and I'll take Horde with me. What say you all?"

Offtopic but, |
Since Fun has not been here since Friday, I'll post in party order the following:
1. Sokei drops the bird cage down with the rope, and we wait 10 minutes and bring it back up and check the bird's health. Untie the bird cage from the rope, and restow it in pack.
2. Horde descends the ladder and stands at the ready with sword, followed by Althea with a torch, and then Sokei, as Ice and Elda cover at the entrance with bows at the ready.
We'll see what happens at that point.
Ahhh! im really really sorry. My phone line was disconenected for the weekend and a half and it didnt want to cooperate. Farseer it seems you do a way better job at being leader, and im realyl sucking up the place, and weighing everyone down, maybe you should take my place. again im sorry.
My thoughts are to proceed slowly in the mine. if it allows but 2 people at a time send a tehif and a warrior in groups.
Let's make sure the torch is lit. I didn't see any reference to us lighting the torch. Also, do you want to take the torch we found hanging or leave it. If we take it, it gives us extra "time" with light. However, this will alert anyone who returns that we are here.
I say, let's be just as cautious here. First. Let's look around the small area we are in. Make sure there are no strange creatures on the ceiling for example (reference to last game). Then I would proceed with the canary just like we did before entering here.
I would have Horde and Althea enter the next area and at the same time have Ice and Elda enter the area that Horde and Althea are leaving.
Once Horde and Althea are safely in the next area, Ice and Elda will enter that area and Sokei will come into the first area and close the door behind him. The goal being to get us all into the next area at once if possible.
Horde and Althea should look around visually before we all enter to be sure no dangerous giant spiders are waiting, etc., but we probably should move quickly to get all together in one area. Strength in numbers.
As far as leader, I vote for FarSeer if Fun doesn't mind. Not because you are doing a bad job fun, but FarSeer really does have a very good imagination and her posts are pretty lively. If Fun wants to stay on as leader, he also has my support.
i think we should continue with our own torch. To me their torch is not lit, so it would alert them if their torch was missing. if we continue with our torch they wont know we took it, they would just supose it was one of their fellow miners, should they come from the front. either way we are covered if we use our own torchl
First of all, Fun, please don't beat yourself up like that!!!!! You are not sucking up the place. If you can't get here, you can't get here -- I have other obligations and situations that come up also. This is why we have a 1st and a 2nd in command No sweat, bro, okay?
Elda, are you with us??
Something that might be helpful for posting in Party Order is if each player could post something actually "in character" -- that way, it's easier to just "cut and paste" what you will say/do into the actual post.
So what I see is, we have another trap door set into the floor, only smaller this time. I do believe we lit a torch before opening the first one, because Sokei was holding it and looking into the mine shaft. Thank goodness we have Horde to open this second door He's pretty strong!
I agree, we should first look into every "corner" of this first little landing, up at the ceiling, etc. and then do the same routine with this new door -- open, look, descend carefully into landing #2, look carefully some more whilst Ice & Elda move into landing #1. Sokei is still on lookout holding the bird cage (sorry, Fun ) and will descend into landing #1 as soon as Ice & Elda can get into landing #2, and so on until we can all be on the same floor together (let's hope that's what actually happens and we don't end up playing follow the leader all the way down the mine shaft...)

Althea's heart stops...and then begins to hammer rapidly as she reads the horrible message painted in dripping blood on the wall of the landing. "Um.. This does not bode well, my friends. There's a message writ large, and in blood, on the wall down here -- 'Beware' and all that. Anyone wants to back out, now's yer chance, before we go any farther."
She rests a hand on Horde's shoulder, more to steady herself than to get his attention. "How about you, yer big mutton-head? You for forging onward? Can you actually read the message -- I mean, do know your letters, Horde?"
Althea holds the torch high and looks upward at the small ceiling, and lights up every nook and cranny of the room, including under the ladder.
