Telling Your Bishop About Your Sex Life

Telling Your Bishop About Your Sex Life

Someone wrote this elsewhere and I thought I would post it here for Discussion, sorry I forgot the source:

international QUOTE

I was raised Mormon, so the situation I'm about to describe didn't seem so unusual at the time. However, after leaving the Mormon church I realized how horrifying this situation is. Let me put it in clear non-Mormon language. When someone in the Mormon church (especially the youth) commits s-xual sin, they must go to their Bishop (the church leader in their area) and discuss their s-xual sins. Now from my experience, I had to discuss every single detail of my 17-year-old sex life to some forty something year old man. He would probe me with questions (I.e., what led up to the actual intercourse Was there penetration Were you aroused What was done exactly). Does this come across as s-xual abuse even though no s-xual act was committed Mind you, this happens to several young men and women who have "sexually sinned" across the church, so across the world. They have to unveil their s-xual details to some stranger. I would like opinions to see whether those who grow up not Mormon think this is s-xual abuse; and what I can do to find legal help for this. I'm no longer a minor, but I don't want other people suffering from this...uncomfortable experience. Thank you.

Well, this is one of those issues where all depends on your Bishop. Maybe in some areas, some Bishops will want the "full" details while others can get the picture without having to give a full explanation.

Generally, I won't say it is s-xual abuse (because with that sense, when a person who was sexually abused details the experience to a psychologist then they're being abused, it's kind of absurd). It all depends on how it is done.

These new topics are getting more and more interesting! Fortunately my bishop has never asked me anything like that and I don't remember any of my former bishops doing that either. Don't they have a policy against reaching too deep into the intimate details of a marriage?
