They say that if a person has a photographic memory they can remember details of places, names, etc as a 'picture' in their mind. Have you ever met someone like this?
I think some people have better memories than others, but I don't think anyone has a truly photographic one. My memory was exceptional when I was younger, now it isn't as good. It is true that our short term memory gets worse as we get older.
There is such thing as a photographic memory, though most who say they have it don't. Some autistic kids truly have a photographic memory. They see an object once and are able to then reproduce it perfectly down to each finite detail. Buildings like the royal palace in London have been reproduced to exquisite detail by autistic children who either see it in a book or simply drive by it once.
Yes, I'd have to agree that there is such a thing as a photographic memory. I believe those who are blessed with such a gift, most times do not even realize they have this ability. I was wondering while reading this discussion whether remembering people's faces is considered having a photographic memory. Or would one have to remember all the details of that person's face? I, for one, can see a person one time, and if I see that person again, I know at once that I've seen them before. I think this is to make up for the fact that I am horrible at remembering people's names.
Yes I believe there is such a thing, a guy I worked with has it. I was working in the repair shop of a farm equipment dealership. This guy could read through the schematics of a model of a tractor, and could recall just about anything about it without looking it back up. He still had a problem of misplacing his keys though.
