Educational Equity - Page 2

I didnt say we should lower standards for US students to get into college. I'm just saying that the majority of our high school students cannot compete with the majority of the international students that apply to attend our colleges. I also think it is a simplistic view to think that most students know what they want to do for a living coming out of high school, or even 2-3 years removed from high school. I dont think the local janitor would have said that he wanted to clean bathrooms all day, or that the garbage collecter would have said that he wanted to pick up our garbage every day.
Most folks who attend a university where there is some cost involved is responsible for paying that money back in the end. Thus, they have to work coming out of school. For those who attend junior colleges or those that dont cost as much, will generally have a degree, and yes, they may become the secretary, but their degree puts them at an advantage down the road for getting a better job, or futhering their career. Most people with degrees these days can and do make the most of it, in the long run; it's the folks who dont have one that suffer the most.
