Some friends and I were talking recently about older Sci-fi movies and television series and where they failed to predict certain scientific achievements in our own time. Two of the big areas that we noticed were miniaturization and the internet. If you watch the old series and movies the equipment they use is usually rather large and clunky but today technology is small and sleek. A lot of these writers really seem to miss when they make predictions about the future. One author that seems to be pretty good is William Gibson.
Where do you feel that sci-fi has failed in its predictions and where do you think that they are likely accurate?
